Illinois-based Kraft Foods Global, Incorporated has announced a recall of specific varieties of its Velveeta Shells and Cheese product. Kraft has announced the recall as a precautionary measure, as the affected products possibly contain thin pieces of wire bristles.

Three varieties of the Velveeta product have been specified in the recall. These products are packed in single-serve microwaveable cups and have a “Best By” date indicated below.

Specific information about the recalled products are the following:

“Velveeta Shells and Cheese Original Microwaveable Cups,” packed in 2.39-ounce cups, with a “Best by” date of May 16, 2012 and a UPC code of 2100002322.

“Velveeta Rotini and Cheese Broccoli Microwaveable Cups,” packed in 2.44-ounce cups, with a “Best by” date from April 29, 2012 to May 14, 2012 and a UPC code of 2100002318.

“Velveeta Shells and Cheese Original Four Pack Microwaveable Cups,” packed in 2.39-ounce cups in a 4 pack, with a “Best by” date from April 24, 2012 to May 16, 2012 and a UPC code of 2100002339; and

“Velveeta Shells and Cheese Made with 2% Milk,” packed in 4-pack microwaveable 2.19-ounce cups, with a “Best by” date from March 25, 2012 to March 30, 2012 and a UPC code of 2100002946.

The products’ “Best by” date can be found on the pack’s bottom part. No other products are affected by the recall aside from the ones specified. About 137,000 cases of the recalled products have been distributed to the market. No recalled product has been distributed to Canada. Consumers who might have bought the recalled product are advised to return it, or call 1-800-308-1841 for any questions they might have regarding the recall.
