Tostitos showed its support of the Pat Tillman Foundation’s ‘Got Your 6’ campaign by hosting its football party for United States military veterans. Tostitos is a brand of Frito-Lay, based in Plano, Texas. The select veterans were treated to an on-field surprise bash that was to be a celebratory homecoming for the veterans who had served overseas. The star-studded event was graced by legendary college coaches and football players including Marcus Allen, Kurt Warner, Urban Meyer and Bobby Bowden, as well as screenwriter and actor Owen Wilson. Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet did the sideline reporting and musical guests Gym Class Heroes performed.
Highlights of the party will be nationally televised during the Fiesta Bowl, being broadcast on ESPN, January 3, 2013 and will be featured thereafter on Tostitos’ Facebook page.
The surprise party took place on December 13, when twenty eight unsuspecting men and women who had been in the service got to Cerritos College, south of Los Angeles, for a football game for the Pat Tillman Foundation and ‘Got Your 6.’ Unbeknownst to the service men and women, over 12,000 fans waited for them to arrive and cheered when they appeared.
Founded in the year 2004, the Pat Tillman Foundation provides educational scholarship and resources support to active service and veteran members, as well as their spouses. Got Your 6 campaign was created to get America talking about military and veteran families to be seen as civic assets and leaders. Frito-Lay said that its Tostitos brand is about creating party moods at anytime and the veterans’ party was an excellent reason to show the group that their sacrifices were appreciated. The company further said that the homecoming celebration was exciting and unforgettable for all involved.
