Stop & Shop Supermarkets, in partnership with Shell gasoline, has expanded their gas reward program to New Jersey, after certain legislation was recently changed.

The New Jersey State Assembly and State Senate unanimously passed legislation to allow such gas reward programs to be carried out in the state.

The reward program, which started in New England and New York in 2010, will allow customers to redeem points earned on Stop & Shop purchases at participating Shell fuel stations. For every dollar that customers spend at supermarket outlets they get one point and for every 100 points earned they can get 10 cents off per gallon. A higher saving of $2.20 can be earned if one shops at Stop & Shop stores and presents their Stop & Shop loyalty card.

Points to note however are:

  • Redemption can only be done at the 135 participating New Jersey, Shell stations.
  • Purchases that earn these points for redemption have some restrictions.
  • Points earned have to be redeemed 30 days from the date of purchase.
  • Discounts will not appear at the pump but will be reflected on the customers receipt.

The reward program gives customers a chance to take advantage and save money at the pump. Shoppers can also earn points through Peapod, the supermarkets home delivery program. Purchases at the stores pharmacy can also earn redeemable points, though there are some exceptions.

The supermarket’s loyalty card will offer a chance to customers to view and keep track of their savings, as well as their rewards through an account page.
