Famous for their pretzels, Snyder’s of Hanover is a snack food distribution company and bakery based in Hanover, Pennsylvania. The company specializes in pretzels and is the number 1 pretzel company in the U.S. and the world, surpassing Frito Lay.

Harry V. Warehime’s Hanover Pretzel Company began in 1909, and in 1923 Helen and William Snyder’s pretzel bakery (Snyder’s Bakery) merged and became Snyder’s of Hanover. The initial production of pretzels was manual with the founders reportedly frying potato chips in a kettle, but in the 1960’s the production process of pretzels and other snack foods became automated and the company moved with the times.

The company’s products are found in retail stores all over the country. The company offers a variety of pretzels and pretzel products such as pretzel sandwiches, potato chips and other snack foods. The company acquired Jays Foods and continues making and distributing Jay’s snacks.

In 2010, Snyder’s of Hanover merged with Lance Inc. to become Snyder’s-Lance. Lance is a well-established snack food leader dealing with potato chips, cookies and sandwich crackers, founded in 1913. The combined company has a well-known portfolio of snack food brands with other brands such as Cape Cod, Grande, Tom’s, Jays, Stella D’oro, O-Ke-doke, Naturals, Archway and Krunchers, among others.
