Shop n Save

Shop ’n Save is a grocery store chain with forty stores in the St. Louis, Missouri market, headquartered in Kirkwood, Missouri. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of SUPERVALU, out of Minnesota.

History
There are 3 varieties of Shop ‘n Save operating in the US today. The first one is the St. Louis-based grocery store owned by Supervalu.

There is also a collection of independently owner Pittsburgh-based grocery stores of the same name. They can be found under the name ‘Shop ‘n Save Food (Pittsburgh)’.

For Shop ‘n’ Save in the Northeast (with two apostrophes, now mostly known as Hannaford), look for Hannaford Bros, Co.

The Shop ’n Save stores that operate under the SUPERVALU banner were founded in 1979 as a grocery store in Belleville, Illinois, near St. Louis, Missouri. Starting as a smaller, more generalized grocery chain, they have since evolved into one that now offers fresh fruits and produce, a complete deli and seafood bar, a bakery, pharmacy, and more.

They have also started offering an international line of ethnic foods to include kosher, Asian, and Mexican foods. In addition to this, Shop ‘n Save has recently taken on celebrity chef brand products, such as those found with Emeril Lagassi, Wolfgang Puck, Chef Paul, and others. By branching out into more specialized fields, Shop ‘n Save has grown to one of the most well known and respected grocery store chains in the country.

Committed to the community, Shop ‘n Save has a long tradition of partnering with local school reading programs, and winter clothing drives for those less fortunate. Requiring each local store to reach out their own neighboring communities, they have been able to make a large impact on the lives of all those around them. Their ‘Operation Home front’ also supports our Military soldiers in several ways both here and abroad.

By being the leading sponsor of the local Special Olympics, Shop ‘n Save is able to make a big difference in the lives of those with special needs. They don’t just show up once a year with a picnic or sporting event, Shop ‘n Save sponsors the Special Olympics all year long, with continual fund raisers that helps keep this vital community alive.

In 1983, the retail chain was acquired by Wetterau, Inc., and nine years after that Wetterau was acquired by SuperValu, in 1992. The result is that Shop ’n Save is now a subsidiary of SUPERVALU while retaining their own brand and logo.

Growing stronger each year, Shop ‘n Save is a welcome site in any neighborhood.
