Food company Rising Moon Organics® announced on December 14, a recall for its “Mediterranean Garlic and Herb Ravioli.” This frozen food product is being recalled because of mislabeling, resulting in an allergen ingredient being undeclared.
The problem was discovered when the co-packer noticed that some packages were mislabeled. The affected product has incorrect back labels on some of the packages. The list of ingredients did not indicate the presence of soy, which is a common food allergen. The front part of the retail packaging is labeled correctly with “Mediterranean Garlic and Herb Ravioli.” The back part however, is incorrectly labeled as “Four Cheese Tortelloni.” All recalled ravioli has a UPC code of 7-85030-55559-0 and a date code of “APR 05 2012.” The codes are printed on the packaging’s front label. Aside from the codes specified, no other lot codes are affected by this product recall. The company also emphasizes that no other Rising Moon Organics® product is affected by the recall. The ravioli has been distributed to retailers in both the eastern and central regions of the country.
As soy is a known food allergen, people who are hypersensitive to soy in any form might experience an allergy attack. In some cases, an allergy attack could lead to more serious medical conditions. To date however, there have been no reports of allergy attacks that are linked to the recalled ravioli.
Consumers who may have bought the affected product are advised to either dispose of it, or return it to the store for a refund. They may also call Rising Moon Organics at 888-534-0246 ext. 25154.
