Reily Foods Company is the main division of the privately held B. Reily and Company Inc. The company specializes in the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of food and beverage products.
History
The Reily Company was founded by William Reily, who began his business of packed goods and groceries when he opened his own grocery store in the late 1870s. After two years of running a grocery store, he moved to Monroe, Louisiana where he started another business called Southern Grocery Co., Inc. The new business that he opened dealt with wholesale grocery. At the time, the coffee products that he sold were gaining popularity in the Louisiana Market.
After 14 years of engaging in the wholesale grocery business, Reily again moved to another location, this time in New Orleans, Louisiana and started the foundation of the Reily Foods Company. In December of 1902, Reily and his business associates started their coffee business in New Orleans. The business was focused on roasting, grinding and the distribution of coffee to all parts of Southern U.S. The products sold under his company were labeled Luzianne.
After four years, the company was renamed Reily Taylor Co. and then was again changed to Wm. B Reily and Company Inc., in 1919. In 1932, following in the rising popularity of tea in the country, especially in the Southern part, the company created a special blend of tea to be used specifically with cold water and in what is now popularly known as iced tea. The Luzianne Iced Tea then became the flagship product of Reily’s and has currently become the second most popular and top selling iced tea in the United States.
As part of the company’s expansion, Reily Foods was able to acquire several other businesses which allowed them to diversify their operations. The company purchased JFG Coffee Co., in 1965 and Blue Plate Foods in 1974. Recently, the company has acquired controlling stock in the Abita Springs Water Company.
From starting only in the tea and coffee business, Reily Foods has currently entered into other food products such as dressings, condiments, seasonings and baking products.
