Rachel’s Organics is a British company that is considered a nationwide leader in organic dairy produce. The company has its headquarters in West Wales, England.

History
Rachel’s Organic was founded by Rachel Rowlands and started at the Brynllys Farm, which is located in the rural part of West Wales. The farm, which was nurtured since 1942 by Rachel’s family, had always been organic and thus Brynllys became the country’s first ever certified organic dairy.

When Rachel and her husband took over the farm in 1966, they continued the tradition of supplying organic milk to the Milk Marketing Board. In 1982, the dairy met major problems when snowstorms hit the farm. However, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as Rachel was struck with inspiration and resurrected the butter churn that she used for making butter and cream.

The cream and butter that Rachel had produced surprisingly found a market. Inspired by this success, Rachel began to search for the family’s old recipes so that she could create more products from the dairy. Soon, Rachel was also making yogurts, aside from the butter and cream that they had continued to make.

From 1985 to 1990, there was such a great demand for Rachel’s yogurts that they had to build another dairy just to supply that demand. Years later, Rachel’s started to supply dairy products to leading supermarkets in the country, such as Sainsburys, Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose.

Today, Rachel’s produces a wide variety of dairy products such as butter, crème frâiche, yogurts, rice puddings and milk.

Despite the success that the business has gained over the years, Rachel’s never failed to stick to its commitment to nature and the environment. All of its products are completely organic, and the company’s left over yogurt is given to local farmers as feed for the animals. To minimize packaging, Rachel’s organic milk is contained in bulk tankers, while its fruits are contained in buckets made of plastic during delivery. Workers at Rachel’s are encouraged to either walk to work, ride a bike or commute together, in order to minimize consumption of fuel and thus reduce air pollutants that are produced by the burning of fuel. Most importantly, Rachel’s has been given the Green Dragon Standard Level 2, proof of the company’s commitment to the environment.
