Dole Vegetables announced on June 22, a precautionary recall on a specific number of its Italian blend packed salads. This precautionary recall is due to a possible Listeria contamination on specific cases of the product.
The problem was discovered when a pack of the salad tested positive for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in a random test. About 2,880 cases of the Dole® Italian Blend are affected by the recall. Specifications of these recalled cases are the following:

Also included in the recall are 442 cases of Italian Style Salad from Kroger Fresh Selections® with the following specifications:

The date and product code are indicated on the packaging’s upper right corner while the UPC code can be found at the back, just under the barcode. Dole stresses that only the specified cases are affected by the recall.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious food poisoning. Common symptoms of Listeria infection include fever, gastrointestinal infection, diarrhea and muscle pains. Although no health emergencies have been reported that are related to the affected salads, Dole continued with the precautionary recall in order to ensure consumer safety. Dole is also communicating with regulatory officials in order to resolve the problem.
The affected salads were sent to Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, Maine, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. In Canada, the recalled salads were distributed in New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. Consumers are advised to either discard the affected salad or return it to the store. They may also call 1-800-356-3111 (Dole’s Consumer Response Department) for questions about the recall.
