About Nash Finch & Co
Nash Finch & Co has been in business for over 125 years. Fred Nash opened his first small store in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota back in 1885. His store was a success and within a year, he purchased a second store in Park River, and soon a third, again in Devil’s Lake.
The first opportunity for expansion really came in 1904, when the Nash brothers Edgar and Willis decided to buy a wholesale house, Minot Grocery Company. In 1912, the Nash brothers also purchased White Brothers & Crumb Company, which included vast orchards and ranches for fruit production. This purchase is what allowed them to enter into the business of growing, packing and shipping their own fruit.
Even now, the business is still growing and continuing to be innovative with their business decisions. For example, the first Family Fresh Market opened in Hudson, Wisconsin in 2008. This store features premium organic and natural products, service meat, and high-end produce. They also acquired three more distribution centers in 2009.

I’m a person with chronic pain issues, and I have a massaging neck pillow that I can’t live without. In the past, batteries have lasted 12 hours- up to two days. It doesn’t matter what brand, or how much they cost. I’ve found that the Our Family brand will last for several days, and will regenerate after a short rest. YAY! This may not seem like such a big deal, but when you’re on a fixed income and having to buy batteries at the rate of a minimum of 60 per month, it really adds up. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for making your batteries so efficient. I do my shopping at Gale’s, in Hart, Michigan.
I SHOP AT YOUR B&F FOOD STORE IN NEDERLAND COLO ……I WAS SURPRIZED TO SEE THAT YOU OUR FAMILY BRAND 46OZ CAN OF TOMATO JUICE IS BEING CHANGED TO TOMATO JUICE FROM CONCENTRATE….THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO………MAINLY MORE WATER…..I USE THE REAL TOMATO JUICE FOR SOUPS AND STEWS AND CHILI AND ALSO JUST TO DRINK……..YOU COULD EVEN CHARGE MORE FOR THE REAL JUICE BRUCE
My great grandfather came up with the Our Family Slogan years ago. I have quite a bit of Nash Finch stuff that I want to donate to their museum if they have one.
Thanks
Laurie
Does your group make or sell a “head cheese” lunchmeat? If so, would any of those outlets sell the product in the “Twin Cities” area?
Does the sunmart store in minot stock our family jalapeño
Stuffed olives marinated in herbs & Chardonnay?
At one time I could buy Brewers malt from a jack & Jill store in Burwell ne. I would. Like to know if this can still be bought from your stores. I believe it was past blue ribbon. Thank you
Sometime ago I cleaned out an apartment where the previous tenants moved out and they left behind a lot of items. Which meant I had the first pickings to anything I wanted. Came upon a food item that I read the best used date on the package and became concerned when I saw the expiration date; Jul 1902A, product code number (UPC)-7025346789, Navy Beans. Written on the inside facing backwards is 1 85316. Unless I’m reading it wrong, this product is twelve years old. What’s the story on the date and is it still good enough to eat?
I’d like to know why the labels of Our Family grocery products does not indicate what country these foods come from or where they are canned/processed, etc. Other company labels state if their product comes from the U.S. or China or other countries. I refuse to buy any product where this is not indicated. Please consider doing so as a sign of respect to your customers. Thank you.
You think that is a sign of disrespect? Take a look at products like store brand nuts and dried fruit. It will say “Product of Canada” big and bold. What this actually means id that China exports its pesticide riddled fruit to Canada where it is packaged and sold as if it was grown in Canada. Can you even imagine why this country would import dried apples from China?
Hi:
Me and my children would like to get some information. We have been talking about opening a grocery store here in Bismarck, ND. Could you have someone contact me so we can get the info we are looking for years ago I worked in The warehouse market store that was here and I’ve worked in grocery stores and other retail for the last 35 years and my 2 children have been working at kmart for over 5 years. We believe this town could handle another store.
Are you going to put a store in Dickinson, ND? If so, when.
