Lidl is a German chain of discount supermarkets that has worldwide operations, including in the UK. The company has more than 9,000 stores in different parts of Europe and has its head offices in Livingston for its UK operations.
History
Lidl was created in the 1930s and was originally a wholesale grocery business. The business was started in Germany by the Schwarz family. The first store put up by the family was called “Schwarz Assorted Wholesale Foods.” The name Lidl was the surname of the Schwarz’ former partner in business, Ludwig Lidl and Schwarz bought the rights to the store’s name.
The first stores that were already named Lidl were opened in 1973. The stores had a similar concept with those of Aldi stores. By 1977, there were 33 discount stores in the country. All of these retail stores were kept as small as possible and products that did not sell were removed from the shelves. This system worked fine with its customers, which is why the number of Lidl stores grew.
By the 1980s, the stores had become a popular household name throughout Germany. By the 1990s, Lidl started its expansion plan by opening stores outside of the country. By 1994, Lidl retail stores were operating in the UK.
Currently, Lidl has over 580 stores throughout the United Kingdom and has become the closest competitor of Aldi in the area of discount retailing. Although Lidl in the UK is still considered a minor player in the retail industry (with a market share of more or less 5%), the discount chain is still thought of as one of the important retailers in UK.
Just like Aldi, a majority of the products sold in Lidl stores are private labels, which is why it offers really low prices for its products. Among the brands that Lidl owns are Silvercrest and FAIRGLOBE. The Silvercrest label is for electronic products, while the FAIRGLOBE label is for fair trade food products, which Lidl supports. Even with already having thousands of stores around Europe, Lidl continues to expand, as it still has plans to put up stores in countries like Canada and Mexico.

Can you please open a store in Winchester va
I have been using LIdi almost 6 months, today I was shopping at Lidi, and I purchase something and asked me do I have apps. They charge full price for butter because I want put apps on my phone, I spent $90.00 today its was less then I usually spend at this Lidi in Jonesboro, Ga. I don’t need to purchase anything from this store again, I believe Lidi was there to make money not pushing their apps and you and I want to be spending any more money in your store.
I would like to know if there is a store near me.

I really enjoy shopping at the Lidel Sore in Goose Creek SC. We have lived overseas and we can get items that we enjoyed while living I other countries that we can”t get in the regular grocery stores around us. It takes us about 40 minutes to get to this store, but worth.
I shopped at the Newport News VA store today and as usual found every thing I was shopping for and more. I live in Williamsburg VA, about 35 miles away in another town, so I do not go there as often as I did before the Covid 19 issues. I found upon getting home that I was charged for 10 jars of specialty salsa, when in fact I only purchased 2. I attempted to call the store but again because of all the on going issues was not able to talk with anyone. So my question is what to I do about resolving the over charge of $1.99 x 8 jars +$15.92+tax? I won’t be returning to the store anytime soon, thus the reason I tried to talk with some one at the store? Would love to be able to shop locally, so if you are looking for another location you might to consider Williamsburg!
Was looking for Deutsche Kuche Strudels. Thought I bought them at your LIDL store in Chester, VA. Could you please tell me if you still carry this delicious Strudel ???

Good morning. This morning I shopped in your West Babylon BY store. Everything was spotless!
During this pandemic two other times I ventured to my local supermarkets only to feel very anxious both during the shop and afterwards. So this time I decided to drive the extra distance and go to LIDL. I am so happy I did!!!!! I came away with a good supply of items and felt ok during and after my shop experience.
This is my go to shopping place from now on! Keep up the good environment!!!! Be safe & stay healthy
