History
Leprino Foods was founded in 1950 as a small grocery store with an Italian feel and one that sold Italian goods. The first cheese product that the company produced was sold under the brand Gina Marie.
In 1978, the company, then named Leprino Cheese, started international expansion when it began shןpping whey to the Japanese market. A year later, the company’s name became Leprino Foods.
In 1986, Leprino Foods introduced Quality Locked Cheese, or QLC. QLC is an innovative individual quick freezing process that allows the resulting cheese to have an increased performance and shelf-life. Three years after, the company introduced another innovative process, the “Same Day Dice” process. This process allowed for milk to be transformed to cheese in only 4 hours.
In 1992, Leprino Foods became the country’s number one supplier of pizza cheese. In 1998, the company entered into a partnership with major dairy Co-operative DFA.
In 2007, Leprino Foods expanded its operations in Western Europe by partnering with Glanbia Cheese. By 2010, Leprino Foods’ operations has expanded to 40 countries all over the world.
Currently, Leprino Foods has twelve manufacturing facilities in different parts of the world. The company gets its milk from the country’s biggest dairy co-operatives. Leprino Foods supplies cheese to different suppliers of pizza, large and small. Some of the famous companies that it supplies cheeses to include Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s. Aside from mozzarella cheese, the company also produces string cheeses, Monterey Jack and reduced-fat cheddar.
Leprino Foods also operates a dairy powder facility. This production plant provides products such as whey protein concentrate, functional proteins, baby formula, baked goods, lactose, yogurt and confectionery.
Leprino Foods prides itself with having the ‘Leprino Difference’ and being able to deliver service, quality and innovation to its consumers. To ensure that the company’s products are of the highest quality, these products go through 350,000 microbiological, analytical and performance tests in a month.
