“Here Everything’s Better” is the slogan at HEB Grocery Company, but that is not what the acronym means. The name comes from the founding lady’s son’s initials – Howard Edward Butt. She gave control to her son in 1919.
In 1905, Florence Butt, founder of H-E-B, opened C. C. Butt Grocery store. The store was taken over by her son after he came back from World War I. The name of the stores changed to H-E-B in 1927 after some new acquisitions of stores in other locations. The H.E.B chain of businesses is, in most cases, referred to as H.E.B. The headquarters of the company is in San Antonio, Texas. HEB is the largest privately owned company in Texas.
Private Label Products
HEB produces their own private brand of milk, bread, ice cream, ready-cooked meats, snacks and meals. The brand names that the products are sold under include “H-E-B Fully Cooked,” “Hill Country Fare,” “H-E-B,” “H-E-B Mootopia for milk, and “H-E-Buddy.”
Also under the control of H.E.B is the Central Market. This is a fine foods and organic distributor that carries brands such as “Central Market Organics” and “Central Market Naturals.” The Central Market stores can be found in eight locations. The company also operates HEB Plus, Mi Tienda (‘my store’ in Spanish) and Joe V’s Smart Shop. HEB Plus! Has larger non-food item sections such as entertainment, house wares and general merchandise, Mi Tienda is a Latino-themed store that carries sections where Mexican homemade baked goods are offered and where fresh tortillas are made, the Cocina restaurant is also housed. Joe V’s Smart Shop features discount items.
The company owns more than 300 stores in Northern Mexico and in Texas.
I LIVE IN TENNESSEE AND LOVE YOUR PICKLE HOW CAN I GET THE H.E.B. BLAND DILL PICLE
Why did you stop carrying your Opti-meal “shakes” ? I have been buying this product for over a year, in the Burleson & Cleburne stores; in the Double Chocolate & Coffee flavors. Now I’m told that it can not be reordered. I had gastric sleeve operation, & the shakes are the best tasting of all the meal replacement shakes of the market. I have tried all of the other brands so I feel like I can say this without any reservation! PLEASE, being the shakes back!

I have complained about the HEB in downtown area of Killeen,Texas for years now..It’s been in this shape for over 20-30 years.. They have done NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to this store since build or bought in the 70’s…I have sent pictures into the planning department and even had our Mayor also contact them. There answer was we’ll look into it. But of course that has been years tooo. Now, they have built 2 new big, nice stores on the south end of town. So the people in the north end of town which is mainly elderly and lower income have to use the one down town. It’s just a SHAME, SHAME that as much business as HEB does they can’t even get this store updated to even an Neighborhood store and I’m not kidding…Just so so sad…I keep fighting a losing battle with them. Also, I have to say it’s not the employees at this HEB, they are fantastic…I just someone would pay heed!!!!!!!!!
I love the HEB stores. I have lived in New Braunfels and Bastrop for the past 10 years. I have just moved to El Paso, TX and am surprised that there are not any HEB’s yet you have stores in Mexico. Is there a possibility in the near future that you will some in this area? I love the fact that you support local people to bring their own products to be sold in your stores. My dream was to create a product (Mexican chorizo) using your products, but now I have moved! I miss your stores, the fresh produce, the coupons and the many interesting items.
Dear HEB,
I was quite incensed over learning of Randy White’s appearance at your Dezavalla I-10 Store today! I was there, but didn’t have time to wait!!!
What a TOTAL DISGRACE!!!
I AM AN 80+% DISABLED AMERICAN VETERAN!!! IF I WAS THERE WHEN HE SHOWED; I CAN ASSURE YOU I WOULD HAVE MADE A MAJOR SCENE!!!
IF YOU CONTINUE YOU TO HAVE THE DALLAS COWBOY AMERICAN TRAITORS appear in your stores, I WILL BRING MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!
FURTHERMORE, I WILL “BAD-MOUTH” YOU TO ALL MY FELLOW VETS!!!
NFL MEMBER APPEARANCES INDICATES THAT YOU ARE “PRO-KNEELERS” IN FAVOR OF DISRESPECTING OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM AND THE AMERICAN FLAG!!!
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MINDS OR WHAT???~
High Five Joseph!!!
You’re hatred is misplaced. Randy White played during the 1970’s and early 80’s. He is not a current NFL player. Also, Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys owners, has been one of the most vocal opponents of those players taking the knee during the National Anthem. Jerry Jones has is also against the renewal of Roger Goodell’s contract as NFL commissioner because of his support of those players taking a knee during the anthem.
Take your business and hatred elsewhere loser, real vets don’t whine about a couple of people kneeling especially when they know it has nothing to do with disrespecting the military. My uncle, grandfather and other relatives served in different wars, WW II, Vietnam, Korean and Gulf yet they know they will always be protesters and that is part of the freedom of America. I know for a fact that those who served in actual combat do not whine nor talk about it, those who do were never in a dogfight. Get over it, I love football and just because a couple of players protest will not make me stop watching my favorite sport, people like you want to end America’s past time, so who is now imposing their will on the rest?
What a weird thing to get mad about. Randy White hasn’t played pro football in over 30 years.
was at HEN and Dairy Ashford, Houston, yesterday July 11/17. They had raspberries which were quite ripe and the price was 2,48. At check out it showed 3.98. The checker and myself went to check the price and it showed 2.48. Then she pull the 2.48 price tag and underneath it showed 3.98. She said somebody had done it. I think the raspberries were so ripe the store had lowered the price for a quick sale. Of course I didn’t buying. By the way 6.99 figs in the plastic boxes were moldy.!!!
Why not a store in North Richland Hills,Tx
