“Here Everything’s Better” is the slogan at HEB Grocery Company, but that is not what the acronym means. The name comes from the founding lady’s son’s initials – Howard Edward Butt. She gave control to her son in 1919.
In 1905, Florence Butt, founder of H-E-B, opened C. C. Butt Grocery store. The store was taken over by her son after he came back from World War I. The name of the stores changed to H-E-B in 1927 after some new acquisitions of stores in other locations. The H.E.B chain of businesses is, in most cases, referred to as H.E.B. The headquarters of the company is in San Antonio, Texas. HEB is the largest privately owned company in Texas.
Private Label Products
HEB produces their own private brand of milk, bread, ice cream, ready-cooked meats, snacks and meals. The brand names that the products are sold under include “H-E-B Fully Cooked,” “Hill Country Fare,” “H-E-B,” “H-E-B Mootopia for milk, and “H-E-Buddy.”
Also under the control of H.E.B is the Central Market. This is a fine foods and organic distributor that carries brands such as “Central Market Organics” and “Central Market Naturals.” The Central Market stores can be found in eight locations. The company also operates HEB Plus, Mi Tienda (‘my store’ in Spanish) and Joe V’s Smart Shop. HEB Plus! Has larger non-food item sections such as entertainment, house wares and general merchandise, Mi Tienda is a Latino-themed store that carries sections where Mexican homemade baked goods are offered and where fresh tortillas are made, the Cocina restaurant is also housed. Joe V’s Smart Shop features discount items.
The company owns more than 300 stores in Northern Mexico and in Texas.

HEB Livingston for the second time has managed to reach a new low in the quality of employees.thanks to the game playing on the cell phone and not listening to a customer{me} I will be shopping other stores..There are several options here in Livingston and I do not need to shop HEB.
… today as we always do, went to HEB at Universal City, Tx at around 9pm and we saw all the fruit and veggies being picked up,,, all the meat,, all the sandwish meat and all the cheese,,,all the breadand all dairy…. . . can anyone shed any light on what is going on,,, there were no signs posted either,,,.. once again does anyone have any info or is there some place or some one who can say what is happening….
Steve, most of the stores donate the baked goods, produce and meats to the local food bank each week when the sale-by dates are ending. The store gets to take a tax deduction and the poor get quality food items! The store then restocks those areas with brand new merchandise for its customers! If you ask what day of the week they make their donations and shop on the next day…you can be assured of the freshest ingredients!
PLEASE COMMIT TO CAGE FREE EGGS. Other retailers have chosen cage free. Why don’t you join them?
Kim Rodriguez: Thank You for the shipment of Delmonico Restaurant Balsamic Vinaigrette I received yesterday safe and sound. Very Much Appreciated!
On 11/12/2015 when going to work on highway 44 just before the Air port in Corpus Christi I ran into a tire thread off a truck owned by HEB . This caused over $1700 damage to my car. I talked to the driver he had no response I would like to recover this amount. .
Temple, Texas is growing. Across from Baylor Scott and White Hospital we have building happening everywhere, including my favorite Panera Bread. Less than a mile down 31st street we have a very crowded old HEB with a very cracked dirty floor. When are you planning to enlarge or rebuild a new store in south Temple?
In my neighborhood I have many neighbors who are doctors working at Baylor Scott and White. I think we need to show our appreciation for their work and at least provide them with one of your best stores in south Temple, TX.
I would like to have an HEB on W Adams//2305 near the new Walmart. It would be more convenient instead of going to Belton. The Walmart on W Adams is getting pathetic. Unfriendly, out of everything. We need a new HEB in that area
I am surprised that a new product from Tostitos Brand is not carried in your stores. I have asked workers and stockers to inquire of managers if they can stock this item. I am referring to Tostitos Rolls. I see the commercials daily on TV..so I know they are out there. Is there some problem with this product? Thank You
I have ALWAYS shopped at HEB, but will start shopping elsewhere. HEB’s just gone down way too much! I couldn’t find the hormone free meats they use to have, been 4-5 weeks since I found it! So I went to butcher counter only to be ignored by an employee handling meat without gloves! last time I picked out a steak, the butcher threw it on the scale without paper or foil, just on the scale, I just walked off and told the manager! Why don’t your employees practice simple health standards? Also, I check my eggs before checking out with them, but then your poorly trained baggers thrown them in the bag smashing at least two that are on the end taking the BLUNK FORCE of your unskilled yahoos! You also stopped carrying some name brand items I end up buying at Walmart, like OLD EL PASO CHALUPA SHELLS. Why must I buy your huge pack of 50 when I only want 10? HEB’s standards are sure nit they were when I worked there 30 years ago!
What can we do to keep pets (not Service Animals) our of our grocery stores. I prefer shopping in a clean and safe environment. As a disabled shopper, I understand Service Animals; however, I do not understand why pampered pets are allowed into stores without question. I also am aware that your employees are not allowed to ask whether or not this is a Service Animal. This is not good. Those folks are taking advantage of the ADA and it makes for an unsafe and unclean environment. I also do not appreciate these animals allowed in the store so that they may sniff at the meat counter and slobber on the plastic wrapped packages and also relieve themselves of feces while standing there. HEB…You need to do a better job!
