“Here Everything’s Better” is the slogan at HEB Grocery Company, but that is not what the acronym means. The name comes from the founding lady’s son’s initials – Howard Edward Butt. She gave control to her son in 1919.
In 1905, Florence Butt, founder of H-E-B, opened C. C. Butt Grocery store. The store was taken over by her son after he came back from World War I. The name of the stores changed to H-E-B in 1927 after some new acquisitions of stores in other locations. The H.E.B chain of businesses is, in most cases, referred to as H.E.B. The headquarters of the company is in San Antonio, Texas. HEB is the largest privately owned company in Texas.
Private Label Products
HEB produces their own private brand of milk, bread, ice cream, ready-cooked meats, snacks and meals. The brand names that the products are sold under include “H-E-B Fully Cooked,” “Hill Country Fare,” “H-E-B,” “H-E-B Mootopia for milk, and “H-E-Buddy.”
Also under the control of H.E.B is the Central Market. This is a fine foods and organic distributor that carries brands such as “Central Market Organics” and “Central Market Naturals.” The Central Market stores can be found in eight locations. The company also operates HEB Plus, Mi Tienda (‘my store’ in Spanish) and Joe V’s Smart Shop. HEB Plus! Has larger non-food item sections such as entertainment, house wares and general merchandise, Mi Tienda is a Latino-themed store that carries sections where Mexican homemade baked goods are offered and where fresh tortillas are made, the Cocina restaurant is also housed. Joe V’s Smart Shop features discount items.
The company owns more than 300 stores in Northern Mexico and in Texas.
Hello ,
I am looking for Argo Green Tea with ginger twist in13.5 oz do carry in San Antonio Texas?
Thank you
Mrs Mohan.
I am extremely disappointed in the new configurations used for the plant areas at your newly remodeled stores. The previous plant area at the 3009 store was the best! Now you cannot walk on the sidewalk, you cannot roll your cart on the sidewalk you have to be in the street to look at plants or even to get to your car! It’s ridiculous that they have been reconfigured to this disastrous way! I pray no one gets killed before HEB comes to their senses and rearranges the plant areas in a more sensible manner. I have been an HEB customer since 1966 and I shop at HEB wherever I am. Yesterday I was at the Blanco/1604 store and it is the same way!

Just wish an HEB would come out to El Paso, we really do need that kind of store with FRESH PRODUCTS and Friendly Service…PLEASE BRING ONE OUT HERE :(
i like heb and their products. i have purchased heb lt active yogurt 4 pak 3 times. each time one container has the foil lid dislodged. i throw it out for fear of contamination. please revamp your packaging.
The yellow corn tortillas you all use to make at the Kostoryz location in Corpus Christi were the best. You all should start making those again. The ones you all have now smell and taste just like the white corn tortillas….yuck!!! If you all do not want to make them you should sell “La Famosa” brand tortillas, their company is based out of Kingsville, Texas… I still love my HEB….
I am looking for an HEB Central Market insulated reusable shopping bag. I bought one 1 year ago in Mission Texas but can’t find it anywhere please help. Many blessings
Our Houston HEB on Beechnut & Beltway 8 was the target of arson on Wednesday night. We were able to return today and were amazed at how well it had been restored. Partners from all over the area pitched in to help, as well as Scott McClelland and a disaster team. This is my favorite HEB, and I found our return to be a bit emotional,as did some of the other shoppers. The employees we see regularly and some that were new to us were so upbeat and in good spirits. They gave us a hug and welcomed us back. It gave me “chilly bumps” to see how proud they are of their workplace. It reminded me of one of the Tenets of Tae Kwan Do: The indomitable human spirit. We have shopped at this location since it opened and are very grateful we are still able to do so. I applaud my favorite store.
Hello, first let me say I am very pleased with our local HEB here in Seguin. My question is this, is there a shortage of the Slik French Vanilla coffee creamer. I have been getting it there since it first came out but I have not seen it in the store for over a month now.
