“Here Everything’s Better” is the slogan at HEB Grocery Company, but that is not what the acronym means. The name comes from the founding lady’s son’s initials – Howard Edward Butt. She gave control to her son in 1919.
In 1905, Florence Butt, founder of H-E-B, opened C. C. Butt Grocery store. The store was taken over by her son after he came back from World War I. The name of the stores changed to H-E-B in 1927 after some new acquisitions of stores in other locations. The H.E.B chain of businesses is, in most cases, referred to as H.E.B. The headquarters of the company is in San Antonio, Texas. HEB is the largest privately owned company in Texas.
Private Label Products
HEB produces their own private brand of milk, bread, ice cream, ready-cooked meats, snacks and meals. The brand names that the products are sold under include “H-E-B Fully Cooked,” “Hill Country Fare,” “H-E-B,” “H-E-B Mootopia for milk, and “H-E-Buddy.”
Also under the control of H.E.B is the Central Market. This is a fine foods and organic distributor that carries brands such as “Central Market Organics” and “Central Market Naturals.” The Central Market stores can be found in eight locations. The company also operates HEB Plus, Mi Tienda (‘my store’ in Spanish) and Joe V’s Smart Shop. HEB Plus! Has larger non-food item sections such as entertainment, house wares and general merchandise, Mi Tienda is a Latino-themed store that carries sections where Mexican homemade baked goods are offered and where fresh tortillas are made, the Cocina restaurant is also housed. Joe V’s Smart Shop features discount items.
The company owns more than 300 stores in Northern Mexico and in Texas.

I have a recipe for fried cheese that came with the H-E-B Seasoned Frying Flour. The recipe calls for 1 package (12 oz.) H-E-B frying cheese” plain, tropical fruit, jalapeno or basil herb. When I went to my store in Corpus Christi, the lady at the cheese counter had no idea what I was asking for. I looked all through the case and also the cheese in the back of the store, but could not find it. Where do I need to go to find it?
I love HEB San Antoina blend coffee,I live in hot springs AR an do not have access to your store,I have to rely on friends going back to Tx. To get some,is there anyway to order on line and have it shipped?
I know h.e.b. got let down in Athens tx, but wolfe sporting goods store shut down. the building & land are for sale 6.97 acres 45,000 foot store. about a little bigger than the store in crockett tx.214 505 3221 to contact. this would be on hwy 19 south, near the medical center and a large residential area, also a newly built senor area, a rehab center with apts and small cottages. to me it would be an idea place. large parking large truck dock. lotz of places for handicapped parking. I think it would be a good place to shop. no other stores are that far out. 2 mile north of this building is a sav a lot. nobody really likes it, otherwise, it walmart or a brookshires, on 31 on the other side of town.

We are winter Texans that fell in love with Julio’s Chips that we purchased at your HEB Plus on Shary in Mission, TX. We want to bring home to family and friends up North. What is the cost per case and quantity of bags per case. Also who should we contact at that location to order? We are leaving early March and want to get prior to leaving.
Thank you in advance for your prompt reply.
Regards, Katie Watson
Do you all carry turkey legs?
I love this store, I just wish there was one closer to where I live. Dalhart, Dumas or even Amarillo Texas.
Your new frozen LEAN hamburgers are not as good as apparently discontinued product. We bought hundreds of the latter. Seasoning apparently different.
