Fry’s Food Stores is a supermarket chain based in Arizona, USA. The company is owned by The Kroger Co.
History
Fry’s Food was founded in Contra Costa County of California in 1954. The founder was Donald Fry, who was originally from Oklahoma. It was with the help of his brother Charles Fry that he opened the first store. Fry’s Food stores sold products like bakery, deli, dairy, frozen foods, general grocery, meat, pharmacy, produce, seafood, snacks and liquor. While studying, Charles Fry was the high school basketball player. Before opening his first supermarket in California, he also earned a degree in Mathematics. Over the next few years, the company expanded. In the 1960s, he opened 41 new Fry’s Food stores in and around California. These were located in San Francisco, Phoenix and Arizona.
Charles Fry had three sons, John, Randy and David. John Fry was an excellent football player. In 1978, he graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in Mathematics like his father. During his studies, he was also recruited to Santa Clara football team. But, he had to retire from football due to serious injuries. So, after studies, he decided to join his father’s business. In 1972, Modesto, California based Save Mart Supermarkets bought Fry’s Food for $14 million. But, Charles Fry maintained it until 1978. After that, the Fry family left the supermarket business and opened electronics stores. By the 1980s, Fry’s Food became a division of The Kroger Co.
In 1998, the Fred Meyer Company announced a merger with Kroger and this was approved by Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in 1999. Thus the merged company was named The Kroger Co. At that time, Smith’s Food and Drug was a subsidiary of Fred Meyer. After the merger, many stores in Arizona and Texas overlapped. Most of Smith’s Food and Drug stores changed their name to Fry’s Food and Drug Inc. Some of the Smith’s Food and Drug stores in Kingman, Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City have remained under the old brand name.

Do you sell chicken pies at your supermarket?
I buy cat food called fancy feast medleys. in targer and wallmart is sells for 57cents and at your store it sells for 99 cents 42 cents more. that is an outrage, if people go to wallmart or target to get it they will probally shop there also. I would like a buyer to check this .thanks
Your manger at 43 Ave & Bell is so rude that I will let all the people I know not shop at this stores when I try to ask her why the store was so dirty she said I would live in this store! What a pig she is! I have my own stores and would never let one of my people act like this! Kenneth McCormick
On Monday 03/31/2014 I along with my husband went to the Pharmacy in your store located off John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa, Arizona to pick up medications that were ready. We were greeted by a very polite lady who stated that our prescription for ESCITALOPRAM, generic for LEXAPRO would not be available until the9th of May. My husband, who had been out of this script for nearly a week, told her that was not possible and she advised that the last time it was filled it was a 90 day fill. Being edgy and needing the med he started arguing with her so she went to talk to a red headed lady and she, the red head, started in on the older lady with tons of attitude. My husband then told her if she wanted to yell at some body yell at him and needless to say things went straight downhill from there. This situation turned into a verbal melee. Although she, the red head, did not use the word liar she continued to insinuate that we were lying just trying to get the meds. At one point my husband told her “I’ve been out of these meds for nearly a week and she replied yelling back at him ” I can tell.” My husband walked away and they, the pharmacy called the Asst. Manager. After finding out that my husband had left the Asst. Manager left as well and made no attempt to resolve the issue either. The Pharmacist was there as well and of course tried to back his people. I found my husband and we went immediately to our Doctors office and explained to them what had occurred. They pulled up my husbands records and found that they have never issued more than a 30 day supply of any of his meds at any refillable every 30 days. The Doctors office contacted the Pharmacy and then advised us that the meds were now ready and could be picked. We returned to the pharmacy and obtained the meds. We advised the pharmacist that this was the last time we would have problems from here because we were pulling all our prescriptions out and were also done with Fry’s foods. This was not the first time there has been problems with this Pharmacy or its employees but it was the last straw. After getting home we discovered that one of the other scripts had been filled with a 90 day prescription, LISINOPRIL-HCTZ a blood pressure med and this was the second time in two months we had received this 90 day script. There are serious problems at this pharmacy with employees as well as med and script controls. They are issuing scripts that are for 30 days at a time filling then for 90 days and billing the Medicare insurance for the 90 day supply. Things got out of hand in a hurry and my husband was extremely belligerent, in part because of the lack of his meds, as well as the attitude displayed by the red head who demanded an apology from him and he refused.
As a result of this final outburst, the lack of understanding of how the prescriptions are to be filled, excessive filling and billing to the insurance, denial by the insurance to accept the billing because of the previously mentioned issues we see what appears to be not only bad judgment on the part of the pharmacy employee, a lack of training or understanding of the prescription process an emerging or well developed scheme to defraud the insurance company. We certainly hope you take this alert seriously but should we continue to press this issue you may find it may turn up more than you have bargained for. It is my belief you will do something about it and stop what is going on through your own internal investigation.
Sincerely
Z Miller

I have been a customer of Fry’s since it was built in Sierra Vista,AZ, even after Walmart built their super store with much lower prices I still purchased my gluten free items at Fry’s as I appreciate your large selection. However, I will no longer be a customer of your stores. Living 30 miles from town it is no easy task for this disabled 65 yr old single female to get into a grocery, only to be told at the register I must leave my items due to your new policy of not accepting a damamged payment card. At the very least giving a warning somehow would have been greatly appreciated. Thank you for your wonderful selection over these many years, I truly have appreciated it, and regret I will no longer be a patron. Thank you for listening.

I was told there was a recall on Kroger brand diver scallops, is this correct? Also I find that 8 out of 10 times when I purchase liquor with anti theft caps when the cap is removed it breaks the seal so if I drive home with it I am driving with an open container. I have spoke with the manager and she said it was a wrong cap problem for the size of the bottle. Still it happens. Last week I insisted the clerk keep trying again and after the 4th try a bottle was uncapped without breaking the seal. I will no longer take an open container home. I will insist that acapulco is removed without breaching the cap. Please help. Frys is my store. I don’t want to go elsewhere. Thanks…
Walmart is Killing Kroger Frys markets in Tucson,
Frys Kroger has been overcharging their customers in Arizona ever since they bought out the Frys chain. They Get What They Deserve. Now with 8 new walmart stores here in Tucson located next to 8 Frys markets a family of 4 can save up to $400 dollars per month. truth,
I want to thank you for the neat coyote shirt that was given to everyone at the play off hockeygame. I am from Montana but attended the first game at the Jobbing Area with the Coyote's vs the Chicago Blackhawks. Exciting, great game and now I have the t shirt for a reminder….Neat way to encourage the White Out.
I friend has a beautiful set of southwestern dishware she got at your store. I want to purchase a set…How do I go about doing that? Joyce
I've always liked grocery shopping at Frys food stores their prices and their employees and their treatment to their customers and their supposedly pro-life stance of the unborn. However, I've noticed recently they have permitting Girl scouts to sell cookies at outside their stores in the Phoenix.area Also I've noticed that nationally they have allowed Planned Parenthood people to some of their sessions/meetings, which brings up a red flag and very disturbing to me. Why they would allow such pro- death group, and their killing of the unborn and their beliefs of promiscuous lifestyle at their meetings is something that cannot be understood here. Why parents of loving children would allow their children to join girl scouts and listen to this group of evil people is something I cannot believe. For that reason,I will not buy Girl scout cookies and not shop at Fry's Food stores until Girl scouts sever their association with P.P. Sorry:
The Editor; Arizona Republic Newspaper:
You might be interested to know of a censorship program which is underway at Basha’s Grocery Store in Maricopa (maybe elsewhere, for all I know). It is the policy of the store to remove advertisements of which they disapprove from the Arizona Republic Newspaper each Sunday.
The next step, I suppose will be to do a little redacting of headlines for which the store owners have the same disapproval from the Arizona Republic Newspaper.
As far as I am concerned, it is a growing form of censorship. The next step for such people will be to have the library ban certain books from the library, and well, I guess you know what will happen then.
