In the state of Maryland, a church celebrated Easter by holding an Easter egg hunt with free groceries for prices.

Maryland’s First Baptist Church in District Heights hosted the Easter egg hunt last Saturday and gave away free groceries to the residents. Around a thousand people were present for the event, where children got to enjoy activities aside from egg hunting. While the children enjoyed playing, their parents claimed their bag of groceries.

The church’s new pastor, Bobby Manning, said that they wanted to spend most of the church’s money in helping the people. He added that it was the church’s way of expressing the its love for the people.

The said Easter egg hunt is the first event that the church held under Manning’s leadership. The giving away of free groceries was made possible because of the church’s partnership with several organizations, namely: Shabach! Ministries, the discount store Dollar Tree, as well as the Capital Area Food Bank.

Included in the bag of groceries were food items such as canned vegetables, macaroni and cheese, bread, spaghetti, sweet potatoes, fresh cabbage, cereal, apple sauce and bagged salad. It has been said that the church spent more than a thousand dollars for the grocery giveaway. Each grocery bag is estimated to provide meals for a family of for four days.

One recipient, Megan Logan, gave the event’s message of love. She and her 3-year old son, Chase, were some of the people who attended the Easter egg hunt. Logan, who receives disability payments regularly because of her multiple sclerosis, said that paying for groceries is still a struggle for her family. According to her, the free groceries were a blessing that came at the right time.
