The f’real® Foods company initiated a product recall on February 12, 2011 by for its Strawberry-Banana Smoothies. The said product is made by Smith Dairy Products, a company in Orrville, Ohio.
The reason for the recall is the presence of a possible peanut allergen. The product recall is limited only to one specific batch with the following specifications: Lot number 06/21/2012, UPC code 813993004494, with time stamp from 10:45 AM to 11:19 AM. The affected product is packaged in 10-fluid ounce containers.
The potential concern was discovered when the manufacturer did flavor comparisons among the lot numbers of the smoothies. Both f’real® and Dairy Smith have agreed to remove the specific lot in the market as an act of precaution, as allergy attacks may cause serious life threatening conditions to some. Peanut is one of the most common allergens that can trigger allergy attacks. The affected products were distributed in the states of New Jersey, Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee, Oregon, Kentucky and Virginia.
Both f’real® and Dairy Smith are closely monitoring this recall in order to assure consumers that they have complete food safety programs implemented. Their food safety programs are enacted in order to provide consumers with products of the highest quality.
