Groupon, which has been called by Forbes Magazine as the fastest growing online company ever, has again entered into another expansion.
The online coupon company has merged with Expedia, one of the largest and most popular online travel agencies in the world. The two online companies have partnered in order to create a dedicated website for travel deals. This website will also allow suppliers to present their brands to both online and conventional shoppers.
In a recent interview with Andrew Mason, Groupon executive, he revealed that the new website will allow shoppers to book hotel accommodations and plane tickets from travel agency Expedia for a very good discount. Mason also added that the company is excited to enter into Expedia’s large network of world-class providers and being able to deliver exposure to these providers while still offering great service to its own subscribers.
The new website, “Groupon Getaways,” will feature great discounts from over 135,000 hotels all over the world that are already working with Expedia. Aside from hotel accommodations, the two companies will also offer deals for plane fare, cruises, destination activities and rentals.
According to a spokesperson for Expedia, Groupon is clearly a leader when it comes to daily deals and so is able to bring its expertise into the partnership. While Groupon offers the best deals, Expedia offers its expertise in the area of travel and inventory, as well as its relationships with suppliers and hoteliers.
“Groupon Getaways” will start to operate by the last week of June in the areas of Canada and the United States, then it will begin expansion to other areas as well. For shoppers who are interested in visiting the website, they may go to http://www.groupon.com/ch/getaways.
