Dunkin’ Donuts is a leading worldwide retailer of coffee and donuts. The company’s headquarters are located in Canton, Massachusetts.

History
Dunkin’ Donuts was created in 1950 by William Rosenberg. Its original location was in Quincy, Massachusetts and its original focus was producing and selling donuts and other baked goods.

From the original Dunkin’ Donuts slogan “Sounds good, tastes even better,” the company has now changed it to “America runs on Dunkin.” The company has been well-known for its promotional campaigns and commercials and much of its worldwide popularity can be attributed to these campaigns and commercials.

Dunkin’ Donuts is owned by Dunkin’ Brands. In the United States, the popular Baskin-Robbins ice cream stores, also owned by Dunkin’ Brands are sometimes paired with Dunkin’ Donuts. Dunkin’ Donuts’ main competitors in the United States are Starbucks and Krispy Kreme. Before it was bought by Dunkin’ Donuts, Mister Donut had once been its largest competitor.

In August of 2007, Dunkin’ Donuts announced its campaign to significantly reduce its use of trans-fats for its products, instead using cottonseed, soybean and palm oils. Dunkin’ Donuts’ new low-fat products were made available to the market by October of the same year. This new and healthier menu was named DDSMART, which contained products that were lower in fat, calories, sugar and sodium.

Over the years, Dunkin’ Donuts has expanded its product line to different varieties of retail coffee. In fact, almost half of its business today is composed of coffee products and its main competitor is the coffee chain Starbucks, instead of donut chains like Krispy Kreme or Tim Horton’s. Dunkin’ Donuts currently has almost 10,000 stores all over the world, most of which are franchisee-owned. A lot of these Dunkin’ Donuts stores can be found inside supermarkets, food courts and malls. There are also those that are placed in gasoline stations or inside airport food courts.

Among Dunkin’ Donuts’ products are a thousand varieties of donuts which include fritters, bagels, munchkins and bagel twists. Other baked goods include brownies, Danish pastry, cookies and muffins. The company also has breakfast sandwiches and hash browns. For its beverage products, Dunkin’ Donuts offer various kinds of coffees (like bulk coffee, cappuccinos and lattes), as well as hot (like hot chocolate and tea) and cold beverages (like Coolattas and Iced Tea).
