History
Diamond Foods Inc. was founded in 1912 by the walnut growers of California. In 1919, in an attempt to expand their business, the company started advertising nationally. It introduced the Diamond brand in 1926. With the advertisements, the company started selling its products to all parts of the U.S. Over the next couple of years, it concentrated on expanding the business internationally. In 1930, it started selling products outside the US. By 1950, the products of the company reached more consumers with the first television advertisement and Diamond Foods Inc. was the first nut manufacturer to do this.

Stockton, California was made the headquarters in 1956. By 1960, the company improved the manufacturing facilities by adding cold storage and increasing the total area of the plant to 550,000 square feet.  There was a huge increase in sales in Europe, especially in Germany. In 1962, the company celebrated the 50th anniversary.

In 1989, the company introduced laser sorters to sort nuts in its manufacturing plants. By 1997, walnut exports increased rapidly and Japan became the main importer of walnuts. In 1998, culinary nuts were introduced. Diamond Foods Inc. became the leading exporter of nuts in the world. The name of the company was changed to Diamond of California. It became the supplier of nuts to Olympic teams of the USA in 2000, 2002 and 2004. The Emerald nuts brand was introduced in 2004. In 2005, the name of the company was again changed back to Diamond Foods Inc.
