Results of a recent survey conducted by service company StrategyOne suggested that the use of mobile payments may increase by 50% if coupons and discounts can also be availed by using these mobile phones. The survey was done upon the request of Verifone and was participated by 1,036 adults in the United States.

Among the results of the survey are the following:

1.    57% or almost 3 in every 5 adults in the country believe that mobile payment will become widely used in the next 3 years.
2.    22% or 1 in every 5 consumers said they would like to try using mobile payments for purchases and services.
3.    Only 2% of those who were surveyed have already tried mobile payments.
4.    31% of consumers who were surveyed would want to take advantage of store loyalty programs just by using their mobile phones.
5.    68% of adults who were surveyed believe that debit cards and credit cards will always remain dominant when it comes to paying for goods and services, regardless of whether there are new options for payments or not.
6.    63% of those who were surveyed believe that a person’s personal information is at risk when using mobile payments rather than the conventional credit cards or debit cards.
7.    41% of those who were surveyed said they would be more inclined to use mobile payments if they could use their coupons and discounts from their mobile phones.
8.    47% of those who were surveyed said they would be motivated to use mobile payments if they are assured that their personal and confidential information is secured.
