Arlan’s Market is a family-owned business headquartered in Seabrook, Texas. This grocery store is owned and operated by the Arlan family.
History
Arlan’s Market was founded by Ames Arlan, who still is the company’s residing President. From being a sacker in a grocery store when he was young to being a Supervisor, Ames realized that his calling was in business and thus created Arlan’s Market.
Currently, there are three branches of Arlan’s Market, which is primarily based in Seabrook, Texas. Other branches of this store can be found in Crosby and Galveston. Continuous improvements have been made in the grocery stores since they were first opened. The latest improvements of which is the renovation or remodeling of Arlan’s Market in Seabrook. The newly renovated Seabrook store now offers a bistro next to the deli section. This addition was done with the intention of giving the customers a more relaxed atmosphere while shopping.
Currently, Ames’ son Nick helps in managing the business, being the vice president as well as the manager of the company. Nick’s wife Karen also works for the company and is based in the Seabrook Headquarters. Another company executive, Michael Grant has been a long time friend, as well as a business associate. Most of Arlan’s employees have been in the company for many of years and have been with the company from its small beginnings. This is just one proof that Arlan’s Market is not just a business organization but a community of friends, as well.
Arlan’s Market prides itself in providing its customers with excellent quality service. Their grocery stores are reputed to be staffed with helpful, friendly and courteous people. The company may not offer full-service stores as of now, but what they lack, they make up for with great customer service and excellent quality goods. Among the products that are sold in Arlan’s Market include great quality meats; local, as well as international brands of liquor, fresh produce, breads and pastries, good quality seafood. The store has a deli department which includes a wide list of Boars Head cheeses, as well as a selection of sliced meat. Also included in the stores deli list is Arlan’s own line of sausages, which are also popular with the stores’ shoppers. Also found in the stores is a wide display of flower arrangements and a display of ethnic foods.

I happen to prefer the lack of minorities in the store. It kinda raises the standards. The store off Nasa never dissapoints me. No minorities as far as the eye can see. Heaven does exist on earth.
Wow, really? it raises the standards? why because you see more rednecks like yourself? you look down at people because there skin color is different? Im half white and phillipina, you know what I do when I visit my white side of the family? I invite Tons of Minorities over, and they are cops my uncles, haha, cant arrest my my friends and phillipina side of the family for being colored… you have to admit, you white people are afraid of colored people, and what is funnier, is that you keep moving futher away from the minorities, only to find out that soon the minorities move in to your lovely white neighborhood, and Fyi- the whites are now starting to be the minorities of America.. So be nice to us :P -Oh yeah and I live by the Nasa Store, I will make sure to start telling more minorities to shop there, yes we will take over your lovely non minority store, where are you going to shop then? lol, White trash…oh Im sorry I mean redneck… oh and Im only referring to you and others like you…Not All whites are like you, Many are very Nice and accept minorities..
Whenever I visit the Arlan’s Market in Crosby I often wonder if the manger has a racial problem. Most of the team I see working there is white and there is one African American worker that is known as a “Black Nugget”. I myself have applied at least 12 different times to work there and only got 1 interview after my first 11 times. I’ve lived in Crosby for about 4 years and in that time I have only known 4 African Americans to work there…. I will NOT continue to give my hard earned money to a company that I have to wonder if the mangers are racist or not. Arlan’s is the closest store to me but if this problem is not fixed I have absolutely no problem having family, friends, and others traveling to Baytown, Houston, or Humble. Now I usually over look issues like this but we are in the year 2011 going on 2012 and people of every color should be able to work where they are qualified. Thanks for your time.
corey stop wasting your time applying at a place that obviously don't follow the rule of equal oppurtunity. And to have a one african american and have him known as the Black nugget is plain sad. Now you posted this on here but i do not see a comment from ames arlan explaining this situation, but yet he comments on another post about a military ID. There is a arlans in galveston that i never shop at. They use to have one on 25th street that constantly smelled like azz. But it closed after the storm thank GOD. I have pretty much stopped all my family and friends except my grandfather who is gradually leaving. I take him to bay colony HEB to shop. Now that i have read this i will really spread not to shop at arlans if this is how they conduct business. Family own my butt but no respect, but that one african american needs to leave that store there are more places to work than that. This shows the store have no respect for him just a quota. Very sad and pitiful.
Is it possible there are no applicants that meet their expectations? In sea brook there is one African American who is awesome. He has been there for years. On the other hand there is a new African American asst manager that is pretty much a zero. If he was hired due to pressure to hire minorities, that is sad, too.
I'm pretty sure Arlan's is an equal oppurtunity employer. In fact, if they weren't they wouldn't have any employees in Galveston!
So you think that a company should hire someone just because they play the race card and whine and cry because they weren't the most qualified candidate?
Sounds typical to me!
There aren't even that many African Americans living in Crosby. I've lived in Crosby for 20 years and I shop at Arlan's Market all the time. I know the individual you are talking about and I have never heard anyone refer to him as "The Black Nugget". I think you made that up, or perhaps that is what other black people call him behind his back. I don't think there is a race issue at Arlan's Market. They have Hispanics working there, African Americans, but yes mostly white people because, HELLO, Crosby is predominately white! You also say that you applied here 12 times and got an interview after the 11th but were not hired. You think maybe it didn't have anything to do with race, but more of how you presented yourself? The way you talk on here tells me you probably didn't make a good first impression. I don't think there is an issue, except for you playing the race card.
Corey,
Would you please call me at 409-925-3516 so we could discuss this matter. This post was brought to my attention today and I find it very disturbing. I would like to get some more information from you so that I can take corrective action on this matter.
Thank you,
Nick Arlan
When I posted that comment I didn’t think that it would start a forum argument I was just stating MY TRUTH. I haven’t shopped at Arlan’s in a really long time. And I haven’t posted in the forum in over 3 years so hopefully these people can how important their comments are to me. I thank you for your concern Nick but no thank you.
I shop at Arlan's in Crosby almost everyday for the past 6 years and being an African American myself, I have never had any problems with the management or staff being racist. I have never heard any employee being refered to as "Black Nugget"! I'm not even sure what that means, or wher it came from. I do understand that the staff is predominately white, but thats because the area we live in is predominately white! I have known the store manager for 6 years and he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I feel that maybe you did not have the skills they were looking for or, that maybe you did not interview well. I'm tired of seeing stuff like this, where my brothers and sisters are just looking for someone to give them a job just because we're black. Nobody owes you a job, you have to earn one just like everybody else in this world. Grow up and stop acting like every white person is racist and that every white person owes you something. Be a proud African American and show respect to everybody and maybe you will get a job!
If you go to the store in Galveston, it appears that most of the employees are black or hispanic.
The Arlans market in CROSBY needs to hire people of the minories because they only have 1 african american there and everyone in the community refers to him as THE BLACK NUGGET…. I’m going to continue to give money to a company that don’t anyone that is not white. In my four years here I’ve only seen 4 African Americans working there and have known hundreds that have applied WHAT’S GOING ON!
The owners are not equal employers, sad..companies like this dont last long.. give it time..there will be a big..for sale sign posted in the next couple of years if not sooner….if they dont stop showing how rasict they are…
Every time I go into the store I feel like a part of the family. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the items stocked. They open registers to avoid lines and I have never heard anyone say its not their department. I love shopping here for the variety and the small town family feeling. I will always support Arlan's
Hi. I just shopped at Arlen's market ( near coffee Oasis). I am very upset because I purchased a lock which had a sales price of $3.99 but the cash register rang up $4.55. I went back immediately to the cashier who said "I just ring them up.". She got someone who opened the register and handed me $.61. I told her that wasn't right but she insisted that was the correct amount. Hello. It was a taxable item!!! I'm embarrassed to go back to ask for the tax because she treated me like I was petty for wanted the little bit of money. However, I work hard for every cent of my money. This is TERRIBLE service.
Receipt is dated 08/24/11 11:16am. 131 110
Annemarie
well, 4.55 – 3.99 is .56, so by giving you .61 she included .05 more, that about right for the tax :)
You should definately go back and get your money! Who cares if someone looks at you funny, it's YOUR money they stole from you. If it has been too late to do anything you could at least contct corporate about he issue and youshouldn't worry about going back, maybe if they see your face enough they will makesure they are on top of things
I apologize that this was not handled correctly. The pricing issue will be looked into and corrected. With the date and time on the receipt we were able to find the transaction and the cashier will be retrained on the proper check out procedures. I'm sorry it has taken so long to respond.
Thank You,
Nick Arlan

I am impressed with your in-house sausage… I just used it to make my family an authentic German style potato zoupa…and they loved it! I have stopped shopping at Kroegers since y'all up-dated…your produce section needs a quicker sales turn-over to insure the freshest possible product…maybe a smaller area for each of the of products(less volume)? Other than that…I am an Arlans die hard fan!!!
What is Arlan's coupon policy? Is the policy available to print from the website?
Thanks,
Juliet
Did you find anything out about their coupon policy? I work in Pasadena but live in Angleton and I pass Arlans on my way home. I have been wanting to stop by to check it out.
they triple coupons worth up to 39 cents and double any coupons valued 40+ cents.
You can find the policy here arlansmarket.com and click on the tab marked "coupon policy"
thank you
Nick
I am hoping it is because of the new site, however, I can’t find that Coupon Policy tab so I can print out the coupon policy. Can you assist me, please?
Thank You,
Renee
Today I am very saddened… I have shopped at Arlan's market a lot since we have been stationed here in TX. I have written many checks w/ the Galveston Arlan's and it has never been a problem. My checks are from Galveston infact right down the st. I have always tried to support the smaller local stores around me. But today I bought something like i have always done showed them my military id like always and it wasn't a problem I went on my way then I remembered I forgot something went straight back to the store about 10 min later and I did the same wrote my check and this time they said they wouldn't accept my check w/ my military ID. Of course being in the military we don't switch our license from every state we have to move from we move every 3 to 4 years so it makes no since and state law says it is fine just to show my military ID with my out of state liscense but this time at Arlans they would not accept it from me. I am not sure what 10 min changed and why I was treated so horribly infront of everyone in the store. My checks have always been good. I have never written a bad check with them and I was being treated horribly infront of them… I pray that this isn't really arlans policy that they do not work with the military specially with the base right down the road from them. I hope that this was just a bad manager I was working with at this time…. specially since there has NEVER been a problem. It is saddened that I my husband fights for our country but we get so little support from home. I have since tried to contact them on facebooksince the corporate office is closed on the weekends, just to have everything erased. No I'm sorry or it was a miss understanding or anything just ignored. I am very saddned by all of this!!!
I am very sorry that this happened to you. We do accept military ID and I have notified all managers to make sure this does not happen again. If you ever have a problem with our store please feel free to call me at 281-326-4363
Thank you ,
Ames Arlan
Mr. Arlan,
I haven’t stepped into a store yet but noticed you purchased an Austin located City Market on Airport Blvd. Sir, I hope that you will consider all Latinos when stocking ethnic goods and not just our Mexican brothers and sisters. There are Cubans, Hondurans, Panameñians, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, and more here in Austin. Help keep Austin Weird and eclectic and ensure all nationalities are welcomed in your store. Thank you and welcome to Austin!
This store has the best meat in Crosby and great specials. A few weeks ago I bought rib eye steaks, fajitas, chicken leg quarters, boneless chicken thighs, pork chops, roll sausage, Blue Bell, and a few other things for less than $50.
Arlan's is the only store where I can find mushroom flavored roman soup. The only flavor I like. But please tell me where are you? I need to find your store in seabrook. Please send me a map of how to get there. Please.
Thank you
Debbie Libbey
The store is on the corner of Nasa Rd 1 and Kirby.
