A public alert and recall that was announced on October 15 has been expanded to include additional details. More kimchi products and additional product sizes have been added to the recall.
The CFIA has previously warned that people allergic to fish, sesame and shrimp should refrain from eating the specified kimchi products. The products contain some or all of those food allergens, but are not indicated as part of the ingredients.
The modified specifications of the recalled products are:
“Old Fermented Kimchi” processed by Daesang FNF Co.; sold in 1-kg packs having a UPC code of 8801024 140183. This batch contains undeclared shrimp and fish.
“Poggi Kimchi” processed by Daesang FNF Co.; sold in 1-kg packs having a UPC code of 808248144025. This batch contains all three allergens.
“Mat Kimchi” processed by Chongga; sold in 1.2-kg packs and having a UPC code of 808248144230. This batch contains undeclared shrimp and fish.
“Poggi Kimchi” processed by Daesang FNF Co.; sold in 3-kg packs having a UPC code of 8801024183319. This batch contains undeclared shrimp and fish.
“Mat Kimchi” processed by Daesang FNF Co.; sold in 2.5 kg packs having a UPC code of 8801024180288. This batch contains undeclared shrimp and fish.
“Yeolmu Kimchi” processed by Daesang FNF Co.; sold in 500-gram packs having a UPC code of 8801024111206. This batch contains undeclared shrimp.
The specified kimchi products have been distributed all throughoutCanada.
Although no allergy attacks have been reported that are linked to these products, it is still important that consumers be aware of this concern. Allergy attacks could cause serious health risks, especially to people with weakened immune systems.
