Haddon House of Medford, distributor of Asian Gourmet Rice Crackers, announced a recall for the said product last February 23. The reason for the recall is the possibility of an undeclared allergen on the product.
The cheese rice cracker product has a UPC code of 076606-710889. The recall applies to all batches or all lot numbers. The product is packaged in a red, partially transparent cellophane retail pack with an Asian Gourmet label printed in black and white. Its UPC code can be found on the rear part of the pack, just beside the Nutrition section.
The product is said to possibly contain milk as an ingredient to the cheese flavor in the rice crackers. Milk and the food coloring additives were not listed as part of the ingredients for the product.
It has been known that milk is a common allergen. A food allergen, when taken in, can cause severe health risks to those who are hypersensitive to it. Thus, it is important that a food allergen is declared in every food product that it is an ingredient to.
There have been no recent illnesses reported that are related to the recalled product. Asian Gourmet Rice Crackers have been distributed to a variety of retail stores in the areas of Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, District of Columbia and Wisconsin.
Customers who have purchased the cheese rice crackers have the option to return it to the store and get a full refund. They can also call the company at 1 800 257 6174 and look for Steve Spatzier. The hotline is open Monday until Friday, 8 AM until 5 PM EST.
