A Product Recall of Protein Supplements Due to A Possibility of Health Risk

On March 29, Nutrition Express of California announced a voluntary product recall for its whey isolate products. The reason for the recall is the possibility of Salmonella contamination. The recall was initiated after the company’s supplier for whey protein recalled its product because it tested positive for Salmonella.

The product recall is limited only to the batches that were sold from December 1 of the previous year until February 17 of this year. The affected products were sold two ways, through two retail health food stores and through direct selling from Nutrition Express. About 450 bottles were sold at Lindberg Nutrition in Manhattan Beach and Torrance, California. The company has already sent letters informing the stores and their direct customers of the product recall and the reason behind it.

The affected products were contained in white bottles made of plastic and covered with black lids. The products were sold under the Lindberg and Fitness Labs labels and had the following information:

Salmonella bacteria are one of the most harmful bacteria that can infect humans. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include fever, nausea, stomach pains, diarrhea (possibly bloody) and vomiting. Salmonella infection can cause death to those who have weak immune systems. The bacteria can also penetrate the bloodstream, resulting in more serious conditions such as arthritis, endocarditis and infected aneurysms.
