On February 25, J&J Distributing announced a recall for about 87 lbs of its cheese dip products for buffalo chicken. The recall was due to the possible presence of MSG, Monosodium glutamate, which is not listed as an ingredient in the products.
The buffalo chicken cheese dip products are sold under the labels Cub Fresh and Kowalski’s Markets. These are packed in metal containers with a net weight of 16 ounces. The retailer code printed on the metal container is P-38450. This code will serve as the status of inspection by the USDA. Production dates of the products are 2/16/2011 to 2/18/2011. The sell-by dates printed on the label start from 2/23/2011 to 2/25/2011.
The recall was announced after an inspection was conducted by an FSIS inspector in the plant. It was found that MSG was used for the blue colored cheese dressing. The company was said that they a new supplier was hired for the job and J&J Distributing Company had overlooked that detail.
They have already advised retailers to remove the said products from their display shelves.
Monosodium glutamate is considered to be a food allergen. People who are very sensitive to MSG should avoid eating foods that contain it so as to prevent allergy attacks.
At the time of the recall, no allergy attacks or other health incidences were reported that was connected to the recall. The chicken cheese dip products were distributed to retail stores in the metropolitan area of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
