Butter Pecan and Blueberry Cheesecake Ice CreamOn the 23rd of March, Sassy Cow Creamery LLC announced a voluntary product recall for its Blueberry Cheesecake and Butter Pecan flavored ice cream products. The reason for the recall is the presence of undeclared allergens in the products. Investigation revealed that the labeling of the product was not changed even when the supplier decided to change ingredients.

Both recalled products possibly contained the undeclared ingredients peanut, soy or eggs. Peanut oil may be present in the butter pecan flavored ice cream; while eggs and soy may be present in the blueberry cheesecake flavored ice cream. These three food ingredients are considered to be food allergens. Food allergens could trigger allergy attacks to people who are hypersensitive to these ingredients. In some instances, the allergy attacks can lead to serious health risks, even death.

To date, no health incidents have been reported which are related to the product recall.

The recalled ice cream was packed in ¼ and ½ gallon cartons. The expiration date printed on the containers is September 17, 2011. All Sassy Cow Butter Pecan and Blueberry Cheesecake flavored Sassy Cow ice creams having a “Best by” date that of September 17 or beforehand.

The ice cream products have been distributed and sold in different retail areas in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Consumers who have bought these ice cream products are advised to call Sassy Cow to receive instructions on what to do with the product. The company can be reached at 608-837-7766, from Monday until Friday, 10 AM until 5 PM.
