Oregon’s Cottage Grove Farmhouse Bakery announced a product recall for some of its bread products because of an undeclared ingredient. The recall was made after it was found that the retail packs of the bread products did not list egg white as an ingredient.
Egg white that has been pasteurized is not listed as an ingredient on the products. It is also a possible cause of allergy attacks. The types of bread products affected by the recall include wheat sourdough (round loaf), garlic and basil parmesan (baguette) and oatmeal (loaf). Egg or egg whites, pasteurized or otherwise, is one of the common types of food that trigger allergy attacks. In some instances, allergy attacks can lead to serious health problems, even death. Thus, it is important that food allergens be declared in every processed food product it is an ingredient to.
At the time of the product recall, no health conditions or allergy attacks have been reported that are related to the recalled breads.
The recalled products have been distributed and sold in different retail grocery stores in Oregon. The areas of Lane County, Salem, Corvallis and the Central Coast are areas that are affected by the recall.
