In Ottawa, Canada, the CFIA has issued a health alert for certain ready-to-eat refrigerated fish products. The alert was issued in cooperation with the products’ manufacturer, Mannarich Food Incorporated.
The affected products have been processed, are vacuum-packed and refrigerated. However, the CFIA has reason to believe that these seafood products are contaminated with the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. These types of bacteria normally reside in the guts of fish and are considered harmful to human health. Food poisoning caused by this kind of bacteria is called Botulism.
