“Here Everything’s Better” is the slogan at HEB Grocery Company, but that is not what the acronym means. The name comes from the founding lady’s son’s initials – Howard Edward Butt. She gave control to her son in 1919.
In 1905, Florence Butt, founder of H-E-B, opened C. C. Butt Grocery store. The store was taken over by her son after he came back from World War I. The name of the stores changed to H-E-B in 1927 after some new acquisitions of stores in other locations. The H.E.B chain of businesses is, in most cases, referred to as H.E.B. The headquarters of the company is in San Antonio, Texas. HEB is the largest privately owned company in Texas.
Private Label Products
HEB produces their own private brand of milk, bread, ice cream, ready-cooked meats, snacks and meals. The brand names that the products are sold under include “H-E-B Fully Cooked,” “Hill Country Fare,” “H-E-B,” “H-E-B Mootopia for milk, and “H-E-Buddy.”
Also under the control of H.E.B is the Central Market. This is a fine foods and organic distributor that carries brands such as “Central Market Organics” and “Central Market Naturals.” The Central Market stores can be found in eight locations. The company also operates HEB Plus, Mi Tienda (‘my store’ in Spanish) and Joe V’s Smart Shop. HEB Plus! Has larger non-food item sections such as entertainment, house wares and general merchandise, Mi Tienda is a Latino-themed store that carries sections where Mexican homemade baked goods are offered and where fresh tortillas are made, the Cocina restaurant is also housed. Joe V’s Smart Shop features discount items.
The company owns more than 300 stores in Northern Mexico and in Texas.
Having traveled all over the United States for the last 40 years your grocery stores are the hands-down best in this country!! Every time I visit relatives in Texas I wind up bringing an extra box home after shopping. Tulsa Oklahoma could use a decent grocery store, shopping at Wall mart is the pits!!
It’s sad that HEB caved, or became complicit, and participated in cancel culture. My wife and family, have shopped there exclusively for years. That is about to change. It may be a slow process, but keep it up and hopefully the impact will catch up to HEB. Your liberal executives have rolled the dice. Hopefully they come up snake eyes. There are more of us than you think.
I would like to have you list all food products H.E.B. stocks on their shelves, coolers, freezers etc. that are from or produced in china. I want to avoid anything in H.E.B. from china.
How come it is alright for heb to price gouge the brisket has gone from 30.00 to now 90.00 why is this ok.
My wife and I have been working from home for the last 5 weeks. We are 65 and have done everything possible to abide by the CDC recommendations. We try not to go out and only when absolutely necessary. My wife has been to your store at Blanco and 1604 in San Antonio on 6 different occasions, generally early to purchase what groceries we need. We have yet to be able to purchase toilet paper in any form or fashion. I can not for the life of me understand what is going on with that particular product. She has been at the store when if first opens and every shelf where it is kept is empty. I hear on the news and on-line that seems to be the case in most if not all your stores. Can you please tell me what we are doing wrong and how do we get our hands on a family pack?
Does HEB have any plans to have special hours for seniors 65 and over to shop with out having to mix with the general public? This age group is the most vulnerable to contract the virus. Health agencies are all saying to stay home but for many that is impossible. Many are in need of a way to get out and purchase basic needs…food…medicine…household items. Many of us are on our own. PLEASE HELP US! It’s terrifying to go out for basic needs right now. Please….can you find just an hour or so daily, or even once a week for seniors to shop?
I visited your HEB store on Callicoatte Road in Corpus Christi. I was very surprised that your cashiers directing people to the proper check out lines were not using any protective equipment; no masks, no gloves and they were not practicing social distancing. HEB, we depend on you to do the right things for your employees so that we can buy in a store that is safe.
I have not used your on line buying but hear reports that the wait times to pick up are very long.
Any chance you have plans to put a store in Amarillo, Texas? I’ve enjoyed your stores in Conroe, Houston area..
I live in Austin Texas. I really hope that you can help me. I would like to know if you can order the Ocean Spray 100% Cranberry Mango Juice in your stores? I love the other flavors as well, but I really love this flavor. Thanks it will really be appreciated. I Love HEB.
What happened to your canned Beef & Noodle soup? Been buying the Hill Country Fare brand for years then one day GONE — not even a shelf spot at any central Texas stores & nothing on the web. Even Walmart’s Great Value brand (my second choice) disappeared at the same time. Really don’t want to start buying the awful over-priced Campbell’s brand. Been making my own at home since these vanished.
