Select Ready Foods, Inc. is a privately owned food processing company headquartered in Alberta, Canada. The company is focused on producing high-quality food products that it can supply to customers who have selective budgets and tastes.
History
Select Ready’s history started in 1997 when Brad Shapka (current company president and co-founder) developed a strong desire to fulfill the requirements needed to maintain food consistency in restaurants. This lead Shapka to co-found the company Select Ready Foods.
In the same year it was founded, the company rented a 5,000 sq. ft. facility in order to begin its operation. The company introduced its “Original Dry Rib” product, which it sold under the brand “Select.” Soon, Select products became well known in all of Western Canada.
In the succeeding years, Select Ready expanded its line of products with the addition of Honey Garlic Pork, Ginger Beef, and Sweet and Sour Pork. Because of the company’s modern way of developing new products that are of high quality, value-added beef and pork products, word quickly spread to the whole of Western Canada.
In 2001, Nissan Brothers Inc. acquired a significant portion of Select Ready stock. Two years later, Select Ready completed renovation of a facility with an area of 20,000 sq. ft. This facility opened for operation by November 2004. In 2007, Select Ready rented a site in Leduc where fully cooked pork, chicken and beef products are now being developed. Because this facility has an oven and other kitchen equipment, the company has been able to develop and commercialize new products, thereby opening opportunities for new markets.
Select Ready also recognized consumers’ lifestyle changes, consciousness and eating habits, which was why it began to put more focus on creating value-added, oven-prepared products. The company believed that these products are better, healthier options for consumers that were not satisfied anymore with food products that are partially cooked, deep fried, or breaded.
At Select Ready, a team made up of professionals contribute a very important part in keeping the products at a high quality, and ones that can satisfy the company’s customers. From the sales department to the research and development department, employees of the company take a lot of pride in being able to serve the needs of the company’s customers.
