Lilydale Foods, Inc is a Canadian poultry and egg processing company. It is headquartered in North Central Edmonton, Canada.

History
A group of farmers founded Lilydale Foods in 1940. Initially, the group established a company known as “Alberta Poultry Producers Limited.” The company was established in order for the farmers to be able to provide high-quality poultry to a larger customer base.

The company’s first processing facility was located in downtown Edmonton, Alberta. This facility also served as the company’s first headquarters, with three floors and an area of 30,000 square feet.  Two years later, the company was able to purchase a property in Calgary for its expansion.

During the Second World War, Lilydale was given the opportunity to supply eggs for the British and Canadian troops abroad. In order to meet demands, Lilydale bought $200,000 worth of additional equipment.  As a result of these improvements, Lilydale became one of only three companies to supply eggs during the war. This was instrumental for the company’s significant expansion and Lilydale operated about 72 stations throughout the province of Alberta during the highest part of its development.

During the 1950s, when demand for eggs declined, the company changed its focus in operation. From supplying powdered, as well as fresh eggs, Lilydale went on to producing frozen-egg melange. During this time, melange was in demand because it was widely used in cake mixes. In 1955 Lilydale went down to 47 stations and the company switched its focus to poultry processing. The 1960s saw the opening of a third plant in Lethbridge as well as the selling of Lilydale’s  Wainberg facility in 1967 and construction of a new facility in North Central Edmonton that same year. This new facility became the company’s new headquarters. Products manufactured in this facility were marketed under the brands Country Fair and Lilydale.

In the 1970s, the company’s overall processing operations increased by 88%, marking the company’s continuing success. Demand for new poultry-based products allowed the company to expand its operations to processing turkey and chicken wieners. In 1976, the company’s name was changed to “Lilydale Cooperative Ltd.” and the company continued to expand throughout the following decade.  A state-of-the-art chicken hatchery was completed in Edmonton and at the same time the company was able to purchase the second half of its Calgary facility.

By the 2000s, Lilydale had reentered the egg industry as it continued to supply high-quality poultry products to its customers in the food industry. The company celebrated its 65th anniversary in the poultry and egg processing business in 2005. In more than 65 years, the company has undergone many changes and will continue to undergo many more in order to continue to provide consumers with high-quality poultry products.
