Grannys Poultry FarmersGranny’s is a Canadian food processing company headquartered in Manitoba. The company is a cooperative owned by farmers dedicated to producing high-quality food products.

History
Granny’s was established over fifty years ago by Manitoba farmers who wanted to make sure that consumers get high-quality yet fairly-priced poultry. In order to realize this goal, this group of farmers decided to form a cooperative and pool together their resources. The cooperative also allowed the farmers to support the business and at the same time effectively sell the turkeys and chickens that they raised locally.

Recognizing the market for turkey, the member farmers wanted to develop a market for New York-dressed turkey. This vision led to the formation of the Blumenort Turkey Cooperative. This vision did not last long, but it laid the foundation for what has today become Granny’s. In the mid-1960’s, the Manitoba Dairy and Poultry Cooperative bought the Blumenort Turkey facility. After the turkey facility was purchased, it underwent major renovation and incorporated a chicken processing facility. In 1979, the name Granny’s was born to represent the new co-operative that would deal with poultry processing. After 30 years, Granny’s soon went on to become widely known in different parts of Canada. Its reputation for supplying excellent quality poultry products reached different parts of the country, which resulted in yearly sales reaching more than $130 million.

Granny’s has been recognized as one of the country’s fastest growing companies. In fact, the company has been given this recognition eight times already. It has also been named one of the province’s top 100 companies 22 times. Granny’s continues to be owned and managed by member farmers and has grown exponentially in the past few years. Technological improvements and efficiency has grown with the company.

Among the company’s facilities is a state-of-the-art hatchery, where the best possible hatching conditions are maintained and the workers implement careful screening of the eggs in order to ensure that the poultry flock are healthy from the start. Aside from the company’s hatchery, its processing facility has also proven safe, as it is HACCP-certified. Granny’s is even the first poultry producer in the area of Manitoba to have an on-site laboratory for ensuring that quality control processes are being implemented.
