History
Ocean Nutrition Canada was created because of the founders’ desire to help people become more healthy with the use of the ocean’s natural resources. Starting by exploring the health benefits of shark cartilage, the founders’ re-focused on fish oil and Omega-3 fatty acids because of the scientific evidence that supported its benefits for a person’s brain and heart.

The acquirement of a nutraceutical company was the start of ONC’s story. This company distributed products (made from fish oil containing Omega-3) to animal hospitals in Canada. In 1998, ONC started major renovations to what would become its new facility. A year after, the company started producing purified high-quality oil containing Omega-3 EPA/DHA. This product was sold to the global market of supplements. A few years after, the company developed a technology that made fish oil odourless and tasteless. This breakthrough technology even converted fish oil into a powder form, one that is even finer than flour. This company called the product Powder-loc™. In 2004, ONC started operating its first micro-encapsulation facility in Nova Scotia.
