Millie’s Cookies is a British chain of retail bakeries. The business produces and markets a wide variety of muffins, cookies, gift ideas and hot beverages.

History
Millie’s Cookies was created in 1985. The first Millie’s Cookies store was located in Selfridges, a department store in the streets of Oxford, London. In 1987, the company welcomed the addition of Richard O’Sullivan when he became Millie’s managing director. Under O’Sullivan’s leadership, Millie’s started to expand outside of London.

The company opened branches in the areas of Sheffield, Birmingham and Manchester. During this expansion period, most Millie’s stores were opened in almost all train stations, some shopping centres, and airports. Over the years, Millie’s continued to grow steadily and in 1997, the company was able to purchase competitor business Cookie Jar. This company owned a total of 30 outlets. The newly bought stores from Cookie Jar were then converted or re-branded to the company’s name Millie’s Cookies.

In June of 2003, Millie’s Cookies was acquired by SSP, a subsidiary of Compass Group. SSP was then sold to EQT Partners, including Millie’s Cookies.

Today, Millie’s currently has stores all over England, Wales and Scotland. The company has also started its expansion in locations outside of the UK. Millie’s already has stores in Hong Kong (at the international airport), in France and in Germany. In 2010, Millie’s opened stores in Malta and Cairo. Unfortunately, some Cairo stores were closed due to insufficient sales.

When it comes to transit market, Millie’s Cookies is considered a successful business in getting prime locations, especially in most of Britain’s airports and train stations. Millie’s Cookies also has stores inside shopping centres. The company operates under its own brand, Millie’s Cookies, or with Baskin Robbins as a dual brand. Aside from the company’s products sold in the retail foods section, the company also has kiosks or satellite stores inside the malls. The company’s “on-the-mall” concept has proved to be successful, as Millie’s Cookies kiosks are quite popular.

As for the company’s products, Millie’s Cookies offers a wide variety of cookies, hot drinks, ice creams, muffins, cold drinks and gift food ideas. Millie’s Cookies are all free from any type of nut, which is considered a common food allergen.
