B&M Bargains is a British chain of discount retail stores. The store chain is also known as B&M Retail Limited, along with its larger stores, B&M Homestore, and has its head office in Liverpool, UK.

History

B&M Bargains started operating in 1976. Its first store was located in the area of Blackpool, Lancashire. Originally, B&M stores catered to regional markets only but over the years, the business has grown to have a national customer base and now has more than a hundred stores in different parts of the United Kingdom.

In 2005, Bobby and Simon Aurora (brothers) purchased B&M. At the time, the chain already had 21 stores with a yearly income of £65 million. In 2006, the company was able to achieve significant expansion when it acquired do-it-yourself chain Glyn Webb. These stores were converted into the format of B&M Homestore. In 2008, Robin Aurora, Bobby and Simon’s younger brother, joined the two in the company.

After Glyn Webb, the company also acquired several Kwik Save, Au Naturalle and Woolworths stores. At the time, B&M’s stores totalled 135 stores all over the United Kingdom. The company was committed to implementing a more gradual expansion. At the time, the company’s goal was to be able to have 400 stores in the UK alone.

By 2009, B&M stores were attracting an average of 1.25 million shoppers every week. By May of 2010, the number of stores totaled 149. In May of 2011, B&M bought several Focus Do-It-Yourself stores which it converted to B&M Homestores.

Because of its consistent growth, B&M Retail Ltd. is listed as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the UK. It has also been listed as one of the largest middle-sized privately held companies in the United Kingdom. Currently, B&M has stores in different parts of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
