Minnesota-based Jerry’s Foods, is recalling 24 lbs. of summer sausages. The summer sausages are being recalled because of a misbranding on the product’s packaging, which led to some ingredients, which are food allergens, being left undeclared.
Food allergens like soy and wheat can trigger allergy attacks in people who are sensitive to it. In worst scenarios, allergy attacks can turn more serious, even fatal. There have been no reports of medical emergencies related to this recall, however.
The problem was found during a label review done by the company’s quality control head. It was found that the ingredients soy and whey where not indicated on the product label. Soy and whey, which are both considered common food allergens, are used in the product’s spice blend.
Specific information for the recalled product is the following:
Product Description – Brand – Net weight
“Beef Summer Sausage” – Country Market – 12 ounces
“Beef Summer Sausages
With Jalapenos” – Country Market – 12 ounces
The sausages are fully cooked and ready-to-eat. Both varieties bear the establishment code EST. 777, which can be found inside the product’s mark of inspection from the USDA. These products have a sell by or use by date of “9/10/2011” and have a shelf life of 60 days. The affected sausages were produced on the 12th of July and were then packed two days after. All affected sausage products were sold at a Jerry’s Foods retail store in Wisconsin. The company will also post a list of retail distribution for the recalled products once it becomes available.
