Specific in-store bakery goods are being recalled by Florida-based Winn-Dixie Stores, Incorporated because of undeclared allergens and mislabeling. The recall was announced by the store on the 5th of August.

The recalled in-store bakery goods are said to contain undeclared wheat and/or eggs.
The specific recalled products are the following:

Brand              –                 Product description               –              UPC Code (beginning numbers)
Winn-Dixie   –                  “Lemon Bar” cakes                 –              209983
Winn-Dixie   –        “Chocolate Cherry Bar” cakes      –             209831
Winn-Dixie   –       “Bakery Iced Cinnamon Rolls”     –              209806

The bakery goods are sold in Winn-Dixie’s bakery department. These are packed in clamshell containers with the Winn-Dixie label. The recalled products were distributed and sold in Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana.

Wheat and egg are common food allergens that can trigger an allergy attack when consumed by people who have sensitivity to them. Gluten, which is found in wheat usually causes malabsorption, weight loss, osteomalacia, diarrhea or anemia to adults that have an allergy to it.

According to Winn-Dixie’s marketing group vice president, the company has decided to pull the products from the store and is encouraging customers to return the product to the store where they bought them. They will be given full refund with no questions asked. The company is also conducting an investigation in order to find out how the problem occurred. In that way, similar incidents can be prevented from happening again.

Winn-Dixie is also working with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the state’s department of consumer services and agriculture, as well as with the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network. Customers with recall-related concerns can call 1-866-WINN-DIXIE.
