Aimee Geroux, a 28-year old Canadian national, shares how she was able to save $6000 by using coupons for her grocery shopping in just five months.

Geroux started coupon clipping just five months ago, in February. Her children are still very small and she noticed that prices of goods were increasing. She was a full-time stay-at-home mom, with her husband the only one working to support the family. She started collecting coupons, clipping coupons and browsing blogs for deals to pass the time and has now become an extreme couponer. She said she was immediately hooked to couponing and now she could not imagine herself going back to the time when she had to pay an item’s full price when she knows she does not have to.

According to Geroux, on one of her trips to the grocery, she was even paid $18 when the worth of her coupons exceeded that of her groceries’ total price. She added, that at the rate that she was going, it would not be impossible if she could save $10,000 when her first couponing anniversary comes.

Included in her stockpile of goods are beauty and health products, household supplies and food items that will last the family for 6 months to a maximum of 3 years. Geroux says that what she shops for nowadays are basic food items and weekly necessities like eggs, meat, bread and milk. She also buys items that cost less than a dollar, or free, to add to her stockpile. Geroux has also started her own blog where she posts deals and tips that could help other shoppers save a significant amount on their grocery budget, just as she has been able to.
