Fortune Brands, Incorporated is a company engaged in the production and distribution of premium spirits worldwide. The company is headquartered in Illinois, USA.

History
Fortune Brands, Incorporated was founded under the name American Brands in 1969.

The company was able to acquire the holding company ACCO in 1987. Among ACCO’s subsidiary brands was Swingline. In 2005 however, American Brands spun off ACCO to its shareholders. In 1997, American Brands changed its name to Fortune Brands.

Over the years, Fortune Brands has steadily grown and maintained a stable spot in the premium spirits industry. Its brand Jim Beam® has maintained its popularity since its introduction and in 2005, Pernod Ricard (French company engaged in the production of premium spirits) and Fortune Brands were able to acquire more than twenty five brands of spirits and wines from Allied Domecq, a British company.

In 2010, Fortune Brands sold several golf product lines, primarily those under the Cobra name, to PUMA. In August, the company divested itself of some German branded spirits and some related assets. In December of the same year, the company sold the brand Cockburn port. Despite its divestiture of some premium spirit lines, Fortune Brands still remains focused on maintaining and improving its premium spirits division.

Currently, Fortune Brands has three sections: the spirits division, the golf division and Hardware and Home division. Among Fortune Brands’ current divisions include Acushnet Company, a division handling the production and distribution of golf balls, clubs and shoes. This division was acquired by Fortune Brands in 1976. Fortune Brands also has its Hardware and Home division, which is engaged in the production of cabinets, doors and other similar items.

For a successive 13 years, Fortune Brands has been recognized by the country as one of the most admired companies in the United States. The company attributes this achievement to being able to earn their consumers, shareholders and employees’ confidence day by day. In the industry of premium spirits, Fortune Brands has been considered as the fourth largest in the world.
