GiltGilt Groupe, a New York-based business for high-end and expensive items, has launched its own grocery service division and named it Gilt Taste.

Gilt Taste, like its parent company, offers its products on its own website and delivers the items to the buyer’s location. What makes this grocery service unique and incomparable is that it only sells ingredients and products that were previously only available to very affluent people or to high-end chefs.

For instance, among Gilt Taste’s display are two New York Strip Steaks, each weighing 8 ounces and sold for $180. These steaks are said to be previously available only in three-star restaurants, aside from the fact that it is lushly marbled and intensely meaty. Despite the limited inventory, all products displayed are impressive looking.

Gilt Taste’s products have been organized in seven categories namely meat, cheese and dairy, sweets, equipment, seafood, pantry and produce. For the cheese category, Gilt Taste offers 16 varieties to choose from, the most expensive of which is the Stracapra ($40/lb.) and the least expensive being Slava Cremasco ($20/lb.). In the produce section, items such as dried morels are sold for $28/2.9 ounce. Other produce items include fiddleheads ($36.95/2 lbs.) and white asparagus (jumbo, $36/2 lbs.).

As for the delivery service, Gilt Taste assures prospective customers that the item they have ordered will be delivered to their doorstep straight from its source, regardless of whether it is a from a purveyor or a farm.

On the site’s survey section, Gilt Taste asks visitors for feedback regarding the online store and its products. So far, two people have given their feedback, both saying that Gilt Taste’s items are too expensive.
