Goodness Gardens Inc. announced a recall for one lot of its chives products because of a possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected chives have a lot number of 0201111. The possible contamination was discovered after a routine sampling was done on the lot. The sampled products tested positive for the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. Although there is little possibility that any affected product remains to be displayed in retail stores, the company is announcing the recall out of an abundance of caution. Retailers of Goodness Gardens products are advised to remove those chives with date printed 5/6/11 and lot number 0201111. The chives are packed in clamshell plastic containers having a weight of 0.25 ounce and a UPC code of 0 21985 20005 6; a net weight of 2/3 ounce and a UPC code of 0 21985 10004 2. The affected chives were also sold in 1 pound bags and in ½ ounce tied bunches.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause high fever, stiffness, abdominal pain, severe headache, nausea and diarrhea to those who are infected with it. In pregnant women, a Listeria infection can cause still births or miscarriages.
Currently, the company has not received news of any health incidences that are related to their recalled product.
The affected chives were distributed in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Illinois. Goodness Gardens emphasizes that only the affected chives are recalled and not all of the company’s products.
Consumers who have the affected chives are advised to return them to the store in order to be given a refund. They may also call 845-355-4757, the company’s number, with any questions they might have.
