The Raymond-Hadley Corporation recently made a voluntary recall on certain varieties of its baking mixes due to the presence of an undeclared allergen.

The baking mixes, which are under the Better Batter label, were believed to possibly contain milk which has not been declared as part of the ingredients. Milk is considered to be one of the most common food allergens. Investigation confirmed that milk was indeed present as a sub-ingredient in the baking mixes. The exclusion of milk in the labeling was due to a temporary breakdown in quality control. The recalled varieties are the biscuit and pancake mixes, as well as the chocolate and yellow cake mixes. The recalled products are packed in retail chipboard boxes. The information printed on the boxes include:

Milk as an allergen can trigger allergy attacks in people who cannot tolerate it or are overly sensitive to it. This allergy attack can lead to serious health incidences in some cases. At the time of the recall however, no allergy attacks related to the recalled products have been reported.

The affected Better Batter varieties have been distributed through food retail stores, direct delivery and mail order to the United States, as well as in Canada.

Consumers who were able to purchase the recalled Better Batter varieties are urged to return it in exchange for a refund. They may also call the company at 1-800-252 2220 from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. The company is open from Monday to Friday.
