“The absolute, no-holds-barred, greatest place in the city (perhaps the world) to buy beer.”
Good Housekeeping
Long ago, the Ninth Avenue elevated train came up Columbus Avenue past the original B.Altman’s department store, the current site of Pioneer Supermarket, which opened in 1959. Through decades of change in styles and diets, Pioneer is still a neighborhood stalwart; sort of a time warp, with a 60’s look and feel (and music). Not for everyone maybe, but we serve our customers, not the times, and we offer good deals (shown on old-fashioned window posters!) We’re an old school grocery store that’s closed on Sundays, just like the old days.
We have 400+ beers, some ‘near’ wines, and what groceries you need at good prices. We have organic foods, gourmet items, as well as live butchers making fresh custom cuts – with no gas-spray packaging to keep the meat red. And we have lots of beers. So come in and shop with us and enjoy a trip back in time.
Until we meet;
Anthony Scerri, General Manager
