The year 2013 is projected to see a rise in the number of consumers eating almonds. With the current culture of snacking slowly replacing the traditional three meals a day and the increased consumer awareness about dietary issues, more and more attention is being paid to healthy snacks. These snacks are slowly becoming the preferred choice by a large share of the consumer market, as they are not only beneficial to their health, but also fit in perfectly with consumers’ busy schedules.
Among the healthy snacks that have been revived in the market are almond. Considered tasty sources of high levels of energy, they are high in protein content as well as dietary fiber. They are also a good source of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin E. Much of their consumer appeal comes from their health factor, taste, and crunch.
Almonds have also seen a growth in the variety of ways in which they are consumed. Very innovative almond snacks have been introduced in the market, which have numerous selling points including containing no saturated or trans fats, as well as being gluten-free. This has largely contributed to the rise in demand for almonds and related products.
In addition, the recently developed almond bran (100% almond skin) has generated a lot of interest. Almond bran is reported to contain the flavor and nutrition derived from the nut at very high percentages while being 13 times more powerful an antioxidant than the almond itself. It is no wonder therefore, considering their glowing advantages, that the almond’s future is looking very bright.
