header_trainingFood safety is an important issue that has been given global attention, mainly due to several occurrences of food poisoning cases around the world that are a threat to the health of consumers. It is for this reason that food safety training is considered crucial to all the workers in the food industry to prevent food poisoning outbreaks. Between August 2011 and July 2012, up to 30 people were sickened in New York City from consuming the ciguatera fish. The reef fish had accumulated ciguatoxins.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) are working with Asian countries to create a strategy of dissemination of crucial information on food safety on a global scale. This includes training on the importance of food safety.

It is essential for a trained representative in food safety to be present at any food delivery point. In the event of any emergencies and food poisoning instances, these trained personnel are responsible for administration of appropriate measures to prevent serious illness.

Safe food can only come about through good training on how to handle food properly. Training for proper food handling is essential as it helps prevent cases of food poisoning and subsequent deaths. It is also important to have general public education and awareness programs on the different kinds of food poisoning and their causes. This will help reduce the dependency on health officials and workers who are already under a lot of pressure due to a public that doesn’t have adequate knowledge of safe food handling procedures.

Food training should furthermore be included in school curricula to enlighten school-going children. Children are often the hardest hit victims of poorly handled food and food products.
