St. James Smokehouse Incorporated recently announced a product recall for its Scotch Reserve Whiskey and Honey Smoked Salmon for a possible Listeria monocytogenes infection.
The retail packs which contain the smoked salmon are under the lot code 5797 and batch code 4759, with a UPC number of 853729001151. These codes are found on a white colored label at the back of the retail pack. This is the only batch (600 lbs.) affected by the recall.
The recall was announced following a routine sampling done by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in the state of Florida. One out of three retail packs that were sampled tested positive for the bacteria.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause major health risks. People who have infections from these bacteria suffer from severe headaches, nausea, diarrhea, fever and stiffness. In people who have weakened immune systems, Listeria monocytogenes can cause fatal infections. In pregnant women, this bacterium can cause stillbirths or miscarriages.
The product recall was announced last February 4 and to date no illnesses have been reported because of the said products. Affected areas are retail markets in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, New York, Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia, Indiana, Alabama, Illinois, Ohio, Maryland, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Mississippi. Consumers who bought this product are advised to return it to the store and call 1 305-461-0231 from 9 am to 5 pm Eastern Standard Time. Customers who bought this product will be given a full refund upon returning it to the stores or to the company.
