In Quincy, Massachusetts, the grocery chain Stop & Shop will be busy moving some of its employees back into the city. Stop & Shop employees of the New England who were originally assigned in Quincy but got re-assigned to a different location will finally move back to the main office.
There was a need to transfer some people from the main office to Braintree, Massachusetts because the main company office was currently undergoing reorganization. The reorganization, began in 2009, involved the conversion of Ahold USA’s two operational companies into four divisions. Basically, Giant Foods of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, together with the combined businesses of Stop & Shop and Giant Foods in Landover, Maryland, was converted to four divisions. These divisions are Stop & Shop New York Metro, Stop & Shop New England, Giant-Carlisle and Giant-Landover.
According to Tracy Pawelski, the company’s vice president for external communications, the purpose of the company’s reorganization was to create offices closer to the customers. Pawelski said that after reorganization has been completed, and the back office functions will be streamlined over to the Quincy main office in order to control the combined size and sales of the stores.
Pawelski also added that all personnel are expected to be transferred back to the main office by the end of 2011. Stop & Shop’s main office is at the 10-story Quincy Tower. The tower is also owned by the grocery chain. Pawelski said that all offices of the Quincy Tower will be occupied once all company members have been transferred back.
